My friend with all of the baby shower/non-shower drama had her babies yesterday.  Two boys.  No names yet. They are fighting.  There was a casual reference once upon a time to her wanting one of the twins to have her last name.  I couldn't tell if she was joking or not.  I wonder if this is the fight. 

I don't care how much you love your last name, but giving a set of twins two different last names is just cruel.  They will be dealing with headaches for years to come.  Make it both their middle names or hyphenate both of them if you have it, but geezo, be consistent.

    I have a guy friend who has two brothers. All three of them have their mom's maiden name as their middle name. I think this is awesome.

    DH wanted to use my maiden name as a middle name, but I vetoed it.

    My maiden name would be the best middle name ever.

    But yes, giving twins different last names is just a mess.

    eh.  I actually have a friend who is planning to have 4 kids (currently has 2) and is alternating last names. First kid had the husband's last name. Second kid has her last name. 

    They're not twins, so it's not *as* crazy, but I am really hoping the last name dependency fades quickly from our culture.  There are enough step-half-whatevers and remarriages and people keeping maiden names and everything that I don't see why anyone would put much meaning into a last name anyway.

    I am forever having to explain my middle name as it is a boys name - this is because the year I was born both my grandad's died so they took 2 letter out of each name and I ended up with Glen.

    I cannot possibly imagine having to explain why my twin has a totally different surname to me whe nmy parents were together at the time of the birth. For heaven's sake why make things more complicated than they need to be or failing that adopt the Norwegian/Swedish option of (in this case) mother's name followed by son!
