Poll: Do you think a Money Dance sticky thread is warranted?

Yay or nay?  Or do you just love repeating the same info over and over and over again?  Do tell.

Re: Poll: Do you think a Money Dance sticky thread is warranted?

  • Just explain that if it's the norm in the area where the wedding is taking place or a tradition in your (the bride's or groom's) family that you've seen on more than, say, five occasions, it's acceptable.

If it's something neither of you have ever seen but have heard about from others or read about on the Knot and want to do it to score some extra cash, it's tacky.

Remind Knotties that an invitation to participate in a dollar dance is just like an invitation to attend a wedding -- it's an invitation. Not a subpoena. Nobody is forcing anybody to do anything, so pearl-clutching and panty-wadding is a complete over-reaction over the mere idea of a dollar dance. Just zip it and keep your ass in your chair if you don't want to take part. Then lock the thread.
  • I'd also include an explanation of a couple of less controversial options along the same lines, like the wish dance (where the guests give little notes of well-wishes instead of money), or the one I've seen where the bride or groom gives each guest a Hershey Kiss or chocolate coin in exchange for the dance.  Stress that there are options that preserve the tradition aspect of it without bringing in money.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I agree with the suggestions.  Also about locking the thread. heehee Thanks!

    Superbly put.
  • Eh, if I don't feel like answering, I won't. Do you really think these people read the stickys anyway?

Based on all the "Vote for us to have the wedding of my dreams in this contest while you suckers scrimp and save for yours like responsible adults" posts that still show up almost daily, nope. But it couldn't hurt.
  • I've got 2 sticky posts on the Reception Ideas board and an FAQ on Etiquette and I swear no one reads them.  People will ask anyway.

If they were topic-specific instead of just general info or FAQ stickies, they *might*. I can see how topic-specific stickies could turn into utter chaos, but for the really popular ones, like the money dance and "Can I kick a bridesmaid out of the wedding party," it might be worth considering.

I agree. Most peopel don't read the stickies so even if there is one regarding Dollar Dances, people probably wont read it.

  • I've just read about the Stickies and I'm sorry but I'm going to have to ask ... What are Sticky posts?

  • Actually, I haven't seen an old/new/borrowed/blue thread here since the sticky went up, and they used to be at least a weekly (if not more frequent) occurrence.

If a board has stickies (some of them don't, I believe) then they'll be at the top of that board's first page of posts.
