Receiving Line

Hi All,

We're having a destination wedding so we'll be seeing most guests the day before the wedding as well as at the wedding.  Since this is the case do you think it's necessary to have a receiving line after the ceremony?

Re: Receiving Line

  • I don't think you need one. If its a small wedding I like the more personal meet and great and a less structured time to thank your guest.

  • Not at all.  I am having a small wedding (around 75 people), and for that small of a crowd I didn't see a need for a recieving line.  I figure I can just go around to tables later on and greet people.

  • I would skip it. You can make more personal hellos and thank yous. :)

  • Agree with PPs, I would skip it.

  • My fiance and I are greeting each row of guests as they exit the church instead of forming a receiving line.  That way each guest gets to stay in their seats instead of standing in line.  That could be an option, too.  Otherwise, just make the rounds during your reception.
  • I agree to skip the receiving line and go for the more personal meet & greets at the reception.

  • We are having a big wedding (240 people) and our day of coordinator told us DO NOT have a receiving line!  We are going straight into the cocktail hour, and she said that receiving lines will make us miss the entire cocktail hour.  She is going to whisk us and the bridal party away as soon as we get back down the aisle and take us inside for a few minutes so people can start to go to cocktail hour, and then she will release us.  I hadn't even thought of that!  I originally wanted to do one so we didn't have to go to every table during the night, but I really feel strongly about not missing the cocktail hour, so I guess this is what we are going to do!

  • We are not doing one because 1) i hate standing in line when i'm a guest, and 2) we want people to go and enjoy cocktail hour and not feel rushed... and then we may even make it to the last half of cocktail hour ourselves!
