Your wedding style

Hi Knotties,

We want to know: How did you "know" your wedding style? What inspired it? This could be as simple as a favorite color, lace from a dress, a wallpaper pattern or a movie. We want to hear it!

Let us know by replying to this post and you could be featured in the next issue of The Knot magazine.

Thanks!

Re: Your wedding style

  • Once we decided we wanted to get married in Charleston, SC it was all about a southern charm. And I knew I had to have as many purples as I could get into my flowers, and accessories.

It was a relaxed feeling all day. Nothing forced. And just a wonderful time.

  • When we picked our style, my then fiance looked around the room, shrugged, and said, "Wow, Honey... We're boring and plain." I laughed and said that we weren't boring, just modern and clean. Our style for our wedding became a modern, clean, crisp look with some geometric patterns and a lot of white. :]
  • We are both classic elegant type people.  My H is English and wanted to wear a morning suit, my fav color is purple, we were married in May so we had the girls in dark purple dresses, lightened things up with lighter color flowers and had a formal ballroom reception.  It very much fit our general personalities.

Everyone commented on how much it was "us" as we as me and him individually if that makes sense.
  • I have a tattoo that I got on my back in memory of my father years ago. As much as its not exactly the 'traditional' inspiration, it became the inspiration.

The tattoo is a black cross with a red rose wrapped around it:

We are both Christian, and the red rose is something I connected with my father. FI said he wanted to incorporate the rose so I could feel like my father was 'there'. That ended up turning into a black, red and white wedding, with the theme being heavily red roses :)
  • I had always wanted a wedding on a beach, or at least with a tropical theme/vibe.  We had traveled to Hawaii just before fiance proposed.  After being inspired by the trip, once we started planning it was a no-brainer that we were going to incorporate some Hawaiian elements.

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • Fi and I are both fairly classic and simple individuals.  We have both always loved things that were a simple black and white and that, paired with my love for lace in my own attire, has helped to shape the look of our wedding.  I honestly also wanted something that was effortless and classy, and black and white are two of the easiest colors to match and find.

  • Our style is heavily influenced by the ties I wanted to have to our families. Everything will have a touch that represents someone important to us. My grandmother used to always show me Disney films as a kid when she babysat me, so our wedding cake topper is Disney!
  • We figured out our wedding style after we picked our venue.  Our wedding is going to be at a ballroom that was built in the 1920's, and has a very elegant, vintagey vibe, so we're designing everything to reflect and enhance that.  We also both love candles, and knew that no matter what, we want lots of candles during our ceremony and reception.  :)  I can't wait to see how everything turns out, between all the candles and the beautiful new chandeliers they just hung throughout the building!

  • We wanted causal elegance.  We both have been in and to so many weddings (we got married in our late 30s) and wanted to keep things simple but classy.  Told the GMs to wear black suits and the BMs to wear LBDs, I wore a lace gown and DH was in a white dinner jacket.  And then all we needed was a pop of color by using our favorite colors:  green for me, orange for him.  Kept the color limited to the flowers and my shoes.

  • I love all pinks so I knew my wedding would have some shade of pink incoprpated on in it. We went to David's bridal and my FI pick out watermelon and tangerine as our wedding colors. Because,we are doing a destination wedding, I choose fushcia and orange ( same color, diffent shades), to make it eaiser to find things for the wedding since its a DW.
As time went on, I researched what we would carry down the isle ( the resort only gives me a bouquet) I decide to DIY sea shell bouquets. We are not real beachy people however, I wedding is in a Gazebo on the beach of Domincan Republic. So we decided to go with a beach theme for the wedding. Sea shells bouquets, kid sand buckets one fushcia, one orange for the flower girls.

  • My FI has this aura about himself that he describes as crazy, sexy, cool.  His style if very chic and modern but with a bit of good old fashion sense.  It is very alluring and part of what attracted me to him. I love it and thought it would be the perfect theme for our wedding. We are not really traditional so lots in the design will have a twist on what one expects to see at a wedding.  For instance, in memory of our loved ones we are having memory ribbons versus a memory table or candles. I am very excited to see how it all turns out.

  • Honestly that was a tough call at first. Then I got to thinking and doodling...I started with a blank piece of paper and jotted down words that came to mind when I thought of us as a couple & specifically the things we have the most fun doing together, kind of like a word cloud! Words like 'summer', 'sun', 'camping', 'surfing', 'sailing', 'BBQ', 's'mores', etc...By the time I was done the words formed our theme: beach destination wedding!  To choose the colours I simply drew inspiration from our home decor and wardrobes. Tiffany Blue, Sand, Chocolate Brown, Ivory, Celadon...those colours work extremely well with the theme and I'm so thrilled that our theme and wedding just feels like a natural extension of who we are! Good luck brides! :-D
  • My favorite color has always been purple and I've always wanted to go to Italy but have been unable to, my fiance's favorite color is blue and he's a city boy, but likes camping and being outside. During our first few months of dating he bought a small picture for my parents that had those 2 colors as well as shades of ivory/tan and I absolutely loved it. Now I'm tying to use that picture as inspiration as well as Italy. We'll be getting married in the church both sets of my grandparents as well as my parents were married in and our venue is this beautiful courtyard with pretty flowers and a fountain, and we'll be decorating with candles, blue hydrangeas, and purple lisianthus, and be offering our guests our favorite moscato italian sparkling wine. The whole day is going to be a huge family get together, with a  beautiful old church and a beautiful courtyard garden, good food, and good wine.

  • We are both very traditional and are fond of classic movies and the 50's era. So we used Old Hollywood in combination with our Spanish background to create a European/Old Hollywood feel.
