This person was talking about it the other day if you want to PM her:

Here's a cute variation (that looks way easier to me)

I'd think cardstock would be the best weight to use.

ABORT MISSION!!!!!!!

Seriously though, it's a pain in the arse -- depending on how many you have to do!  (I have a guest list of 175) I purchased the heaviest cardstock I could find -- and it was still SUPER flimsey!  I would suggest that if you're dead set on them -- start WAY in advance!  Also -- put two pieces of cardstock together -- so, for instance, have white for where you display the writing, and then a secondary color, that's a bit larger, for the sturdy factor...I was thinking of doing one that matched my wedding colors...to be honest though -- I still don't know if they'd look great!

In turn -- I've completely scrapped the idea (and I only had about 1/8 of the project done -- I had probably worked 10-15 hours on it already!)

HAHAHA! I'm sorry for some reason that response just cracked me up!  I've been playing with the idea of having cardsandpockets.com do the printing instead of totally DIYing, maybe thats the way to go.  I'm sure they have much heavier paper available than I could find.

That was my hope :)

I did see them for sale on Etsy as well -- maybe there's some trick that I'm unaware of -- but I literally just decided last night after completing one (a mock up) that it wasn't worth the time and I'm a bit frusterated because they are SO cute!!!!!!  The Etsy ones were out of my budget -- but that's just me!

I did find these guys: http://www.handfans4less.com/pricing.html for SUPER cheap, but the min order is 250 and I would need 150 max.  Its so inexpensive though (.60 per fan) that I'm keeping them on the back burner.

Sarah, can I ask what weight cardstock you had tried? C&P has a 130lb one that I ordered a sample of, I'm hoping that might be heavy enough.
