Well getting started is the hardest part. I made a list of everything that I knew I had to have that was DIY and jumped into the things that could be done early.

My first DIY was  petal aisle runners. I bought petals from the dollar store and spent 2 days getting them dyed the right colors. Then another couple of days hot gluing them onto runners for my reception. So happy to have it done and they are rolled up and ready for the big day!

My first one were my invites. I really wanted pocketfolds and the only way to afford them was getting a kit from Michael's and I'm really glad I did. I add my personal touch to them and they came out great! My family and friends can not believe I did them and printed them at home :). After the great hit I got now I want to do my favors and my aisle runner, I dont have much time left but adding my personal touch gives me so much pleasure! Have fun and stick to this board, these girls have amazing ideas and are really helpful.

I have a DIY notebook.  The first page is my list of DIYs that I want to do for my wedding and then I have a page (or two) for each project.  I write down the details, what I need, what I have already etc for each project on that page.  The first project I did was make the coloring book and heart shaped crayons for my children's bags.  It was an easy project so I figured I would start off with an easy one so that I didn't psyche myself out with a crazy time consuming and difficult project!

Good luck!

Ours was our card box! :) Pretty easy first project. If you want more ideas I have a list of DIY's we have done in my bio.

I planned/DIY'd for over 18 months. I started with the projects I'd never done before, so I could devote the most attention to them, things like the card boxes, BM flip flops, jewelry, flower girl pomander. Then I did the STD's so they were out in the mail in time (roughly 6 months before)

The things I did last were the things that needed the last minute details, such as invitations, menus, etc.

My first was the STD cards.  I don't think it counts considering it was just design work on Vistaprint.  I did do some calligraphy work on the cards the STD magnets went in.

it felt good, and then we progressed to aisle runner, card box, program box.  I'm currently working on pomanders and anxiously awaiting my origami papers to start on the 1000 cranes.

My first project was my cardbox and my wooden letters. Since they both used the same paint. I have pics in my bio. Then I moved on to paper items and now im finishing up the decor projects.

My very first project was our invites. I hand made the pocket folds, so I knew that they were going to take some time. But while I was working on them I also did my BP jewelry, my bouquet and started templates on paper projects. I finished them all around the same time, about a month after I started everything.

M first wedding DIY so far is my STD cards. I'm in the middle of desiging them right now (I'm not a trained graphic designer by any stretch of the imagination, but I've found I have a knack for it) - so far I've put about 7 hours of work into them and they're shaping up to be worth every second of it! They'll be printed on postcards via VistaPrint (free!) and then the hard part is figuring out who's names to put on them!

My first was pomander balls to line the aisles at our outdoor ceremony. I can recommend that as a first project--if you mess a few up, the materials are very forgiving. Worst case scenario, you might lose a $.50 styrofoam ball. Plus it helped me feel less intimidated about tackling floral arrangements later--which, I admit, I was the most nervous about. Wink

I think my first project is a tie between my STD postcards (printed through Vistaprint) and my aisle runner.  Photos of both projects are in my bio, link below.  Unfortunately, I think we might nix the aisle runner because I'm super worried about tripping.  I'm thinking about cutting off the part I painted and making a banner for the cake/dessert table, and then I'll just sell the rest of the aisle runner.  The whole project only cost me about $20, so not too much of a bummer :)  I'm doing petal runners instead, so I suppose I should get started on those!
