2 of my 4 bridesmaids have asked what kind of shoes I want them to wear -- they are wearing a knee length skirt -- so it is rather important...as you WILL see them.

I've seen that I'm not suppose to "require" a certain kind of shoe since I'm not going to pay for them...but what is the "correct" response.  We are getting married on grass -- so all I've said is that they may want to think flats or wedges and that I thought silver would be cute but it was up to them...

Should I talk to them all about shoes or just keep answering question as they're asked.  I don't want to NOT give them information or direction -- but I don't want to sound like I'm requiring something either...TIA

Just pick a color. If you tell them silver that's enough information. I told my BMs to wear nude or gold shoes and that worked out fine. No one is really looking at their feet anyway.

I would let them decide.  Just say "wear whatever you feel comfortable in.  The ceremony will be on grass"

If you want you could give them a color to wear but if it isn't a neutral color that everyone has (black, brown) then you should buy the shoes for them.

I asked my girls to wear the same color (black) but let them choose whatever style they wanted.  They all got together and decided to get similar styles (strappy).  I told them I didnt really care what they wore as long as they were comfortable.

I think designating a color is fine- then let them pick their own style. Just let them know it will be on grass and they should have all the info they need to choose.

I just let my girls pick any silver shoe they felt comfortable wearing. They're wearing knee length black dresses of their choosing, and I have no preference on shoes.

Just let them know what they'll be walking on and let them know you want them to be comfortable and they can choose.

This was pretty much what I was already telling them -- perfect!  Thanks everyone!

I just told them black, and hte ceremony was on grass so if they didn't want to wear heels that's fine.

Pick a color, and let them decide what they wear. If you want, tell them if you'd like closed or open toed shoes.

With a knee-length dress, it's reasonable to choose a color since the shoes will be seen. As a bridesmaid, I also wouldn't find it unreasonable if you wanted to specify a pump or sandal or something,  as long as you left heel height and specific shoe up to me. Though I'd prefer it if you didn't specify anthing more than the color.

I did not really specify anything. I told them no white shoes (mine are white & i want them to stand out more & white doesn't really go with their dresses) but that i prefer sandals but most of all i want them to be comfortable so wear want they want & they can come out of their closet for all i care.

I just specified color (black) and warned them that the patio may have some uneven bricks, so skinny stiletto heels might be dangerous. Other than that, I want them to be comfortable and get something that that they can hopefully wear again. All of my ladies were thrilled that I picked black and don't care about style--most have black shoes already, and the others said they needed an excuse to buy new ones. Great!

I told my girls that they can have any type of show just as long as its silver, and  it has turned out great! they all love their shoes, and I thought it was only fair since they have to buy them and wear them :)
