Destination Wedding/Engagement Announcements

My fiance and I were engaged a few weeks ago and we have decided that we would like to get married in cabo.  We are going to by ourselves and then have a reception for family and friends when we get home.

On the engagement announcements should I say that we are going to Cabo or not?

Thanks!

I wouldn't send out engagement announcements.

ETA: because that might give people the impression that they'll be invited further down the road.  And because I just don't know anyone who has sent out engagement announcements.

  • I'm with dani, skip the engagement announcements. I would wait until after the deed is done and send marriage announcements or just invitations to celebrate your recent nuptials.

  • I've never seen an engagement announcement in my life.

  • I don't believe that individual engagement announcements (as opposed to the type in the newspaper) are ever appropriate.

I send out birthday announcements every year.  Just.in.case.

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

  • I wouldn't send them because some may confuse them for sort of a "save the date" ...without the date. Wedding announcements are the way to go, send info on those, along with a save the date for the reception.

smokeybailey: What do birthday announcements consist of? Similar to a Christmas card sort of thing?

  • I send out an announcement like this:

    It's coming soon
    Don't forget my day
    Gifts and presents and wishes
Are all you have to pay!

    I love you all
    But you love me more
    So don't forget my gifts
Because I am an attention whore!

    Best,
    Smokey

My birthday is next week, and I might have enough time to steal this and send them to my whole family! I hope you don't mind :)

  • Friends of ours did this- they went to Rome and eloped. We then got a STD and invite for a reception to celebrate them tying the knot. Reception was at a cool restaurant in San Fran with Tapas and an open bar.  They had a little slide show of their elopement. The bride DID NOT wear a wedding dress, just a nice cocktail dress. They made it clear gifts were not necessary on their website.

I hope this helps a bit, but I really would not send engaement announcements... it's very odd.
  • Theresa83 we are having a DW in Maui and my future MIL was insisting on engagement annoucements and I just refused (to me it seemed like asking for a gift).  We will send annoucements after the wedding.
