Guest list nightmare

I am having an issue with inviting some people to my wedding in April.  My fiance is getting some pressure from his best friends family to invite them, the problem is that they don't really care for me.  We have had several issues in the past, including me not being invited to one of their weddings and told not to come to the hospital when one of their babies were born.  I don't want them at the wedding, but my fiance thinks that by not inviting them we would be starting a whole other war.  My parents know about all the problems we have had in the past, and also don't want my fiance's friends family there.  Am I totally out of line in thinking that they should not be invited to begin with?  They are not family or close friends, they are merely acquantainces to him.  How can we tell them they are not invited without starting a huge problem?

I'm sorry that you have to go through this. I think you should talk to your FI and tell him how you feel and why you think inviting them would not make you comfortable. What I don't understand is why would your FI friends want to go to a wedding where they have issues with you. Maybe you could tell them that due to budget reasons or that it's a small wedding that the guest list is limited.

I agree with PP, maybe you can have FI just say it's a small wedding and mainly immediate family and close friends. Plus, IMHO, it's rude for guest to assume or request to be invited.

If you have had problems I wouldn't want them there so I don't think that it's a problem.  Sorry you have to deal with this.

I agree with people, just tell you are on a budget and are only inviting close friends and family.

Chances are, if there's someone you don't want at their wedding because of drama... they probably don't want to go either. They might make a scene, or gossip about not being invited, but just ignore it. It'll blow over in a couple weeks.

As an above poster said, you don't have to tell them that they aren't getting invited for any particular reason. Since they aren't close family or friends, you could just tell them that your budget won't allow for you to have a large wedding. If you don't feel comfortable witht that, then tell them the truth.

Don't feel like you have to invite people that will make you sit on pins and needles at your wedding and reception! It's your one day to be the center of attention and the reason for celebration. Don't invite people that will interfere with that.
