Omg. I have inlaws that are spewing crap having to do with the founder of PP nearly 100 years ago as if that is the exact same program they have running today. Forget about general health care for women, birth control for those who need it and preventive care like mammograms for the poor or uninsured. No, it is clearly the Adolf Hitler of health care programs and they are secretly inching their way into the Obama administration to implement their diabolical plan of eugenics.

I'm speechless. I may have to actually block her. I've never come across a situation like this, personally, on my FB before. Holy shitballs.

It flabbergasts me that people are so ignorant to facts. 97% of what Planned Parenthood does is basic health screenings for women.
A lot of these people seem to forget that many hospitals and regular OB/GYNs can also provide abortion services (the hospital where I will rotate treats 3000 pregnant women annually and performs 1500 abortions, yes that's 50%; it's a major academic medical center). Why harp on one organization that helps low income women with major issues accessing quality healthcare?

There is not one way in hell that I would not say something back to her. I would bring all the guns and flambe her like the stupid, ignorant piece of crap she is.

I suggest you do it, because if there's even a little chance that you can make her think twice, you should. But at the very least, you should stand up for what you believe in, and raise your voice louder than hers with fact, and all of the good they (PP) do. That's totally insane.

Sanger actually was against abortion, because it was very dangerous for women at the time that she was alive, and because she thought it was totally unnecessary in a world where women could use birth control. Sanger started her birth control clinics because she saw women dying from being continuously pregnant, and women wrote to her begging her to give them a way to prevent pregnancy. Exactly this. She was trying to help all of the women who were controlling their own fertility by using coat hangers to perform abortion. As you would imagine, many of these women died from such experiences. I hate when people spew such ignorant crap.

Planned Parenthood is not pro-abortion. They prefer to stop unplanned pregnancies before they start.

It's not unusual for a PP doc to treat high blood pressure or diabetes. Sometimes that's the only time very poor women ever see a doctor.

Less than five percent of PP clinics perform abortions. That doesn't stop the so-called "pro-life" crowd (who won't support birth control, with prevents abortions, either) from harassing patients. One patient I was escorting in was eight months pregnant. Should have been obvious that she wasn't there for an abortion, but they threw rocks at us anyway. So much for respect for life.

I am currently considering deleting my own half-brother on Facebook over his extreme right wing views. It seems that what is going on is another civil war where "brother is pitted against brother" so to speak, except it's a war of cultural values.

I just can't bring myself to even speak with people, family or not, who have joined in on this war against women and women's health. (Yes, I agree with left-leaning pundits that this is what is truely going on right now).

Shiit. I just defriended her. Her husband wrote more on that post and is clearly an angry pro-life zealot and said he knows PP does other stuff besides abortion, but abortion is WRONG and then told me I was patronizing him. I said I wasn't patronizing, just commenting on what was written in that specific post on FB. That I respected his pro-life opinion but that it was clear he didn't respect my pro-choice one if he thought that what that article stated applied to PP as it stands today and their services to women.

Then I messaged her and told her that I love her, but that I want to remember her as that sweet woman I met at the family reunion a couple years ago, not a propaganda-spewing zealot.

Yikes.

Yikers. I grew up friends with the zealous ministers' daughters, so I know about the fun that can be had listening to some of their views. To be completely truthful, the middle daughter is a great and understanding person that is not into shoving beliefs down people's throats. The other 2 are into that 24/7. One of them even punched me in the face because we had a disagreement over the Bible, which I think stands on the side of not punching people in the face (irony abound). I said my piece with blatant disregard for the high road (just got punched so I don't regret it).
