May I ask a newbie question? (long)

I have been lurking here for a long time - actually joined about a week ago. First, I just wanted to say that any newbie who is scared away from posting here is overly sensitive. The NWR posts are entertaining, funny and informative on subjects other than wedding plans (There are other things going on in people’s lives than my wedding? I doubt it; I’m kind of a big deal). So, to put my money where my mouth is, I’m not scared to ask some questions.

1. Could someone please explain what "FTW", "S/O" and "troll" mean? I have seen these multiple times and can’t figure them out. I looked on the "Knottie Lingo" board, but did not see them (that doesn’t mean they are not there - I am not always the most careful).

2. When I throw myself a pre-wedding party and am sending out the invitations to everyone who isn’t invited to the wedding, is it ok to ask for cash to put toward my honeymoon?

OK, the second one is a joke, but the first one I am really curious about.

A week is not a long time to lurk. At all. Especially since the ridiculous questions are on about a 3 week cycle.

    1. FTW = for the win (best response), S/O = spin off from another question/poll. A troll is a fake poster who comes in with ridiculous posts to stir up drama

You got me with #2. Nice one.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it.  I have lurked for about 2-3months, but then finally joined because I was starting to feel creepy.

Buffalove, are you from Buffalo, too? My mom is from Geneseo, DH's parents are from Canadaigua.

I am from Buffalo - North Buffalo area.  My sister went to Geneseo for college - it is so beautiful there.  I love the smell of the alfalfa in the spring.  And we are actually going to Canandaigua for Thanksgiving.

Hi and welcome.  Tell us about yourself.  We could use a little new blood around here and you seem funny.

Also, it helps if you put up a siggy pic for people to recognize you by.

    Thanks for being so welcoming!

You have to have a good sense of humor to live in Buffalo.

I'm a 28 year old lawyer from Buffalo.  I practice railroad law.  I didn't even know the railroads were still in existence until I got this job, but now I LOVE it.

I have two dogs who are the loves of my life after FI.  Buddy and Hella, both labs.

I will work on the picture.  Right now, I am at work, pretending to work so that my secretary will actually work.  I am so mean.  As soon as I get home, I will find a picture.

Hey, cool, I'm an attorney too (non-practicing though).  I remember a few railroad-y cases from law school that were actually pretty interesting.

And you will also have to share pictures of these labs, too.

Actually what you need to do is have someone stand at the door at all your prewedding parties with a box and whoever doesn't bring money for you has to leave.

Let your guests know on the invitations that you also accept Paypal.

Salt - you are a genius.  I am thinking about telling people that there is a minimum acceptable gift as well.  I don't want people cheaping out on me.  This is my day, after all.

Here is a picture of Buddy that I could find on my computer, I promise that I will get one of Hella and post soon and also get a siggy pic and avatar.  I hope it is not too large, I am new at this :)

    OMG, love.  What a cutie!

We are spending Thanksgiving with the FILs and they have the tiniest yellow lab I've ever seen.  I love him.

Aww....I have a chocolate lab named Willard, but he's an old man (11 years). I'm getting a little brother for him soon.

  • Options

Willard is such a great name!  Is he finally calm at 11 years?  I am not sure if either of mine will ever calm down!
