Open early wedding gift?

Our wedding is not for another 5 months, but today we received a wedding gift (obviously not an engagement gift since we've been engaged for 10 months already, and not a shower gift since that's not until July and invites have not gone out). It is off our registry and was wrapped and mailed by Bed, Bath & Beyond. I'm assuming we can open it now mostly so we can go ahead and send a thank you note. But can we use it now, or does etiquette require we wait until after the wedding to use it?

Re: Open early wedding gift?

  • Etiquette says to wait until after the wedding to use the gift.
  • Open it.
    Send a thank you note
Put the gift away until after the wedding.

Yep, wait to use it until after the wedding.  If something unexpected were to occur and the wedding did not go forward as planned, you would need to return the gifts.

  • That's what I was thinking, but I just wanted some verification. Thanks, all!
