My friend who is hosting my shower has recently asked for a guest list, and I can't decide if I should invite my grandmothers and aunts who live out of town.  I don't want them to feel left out, but I also don't want to look gift-grabby.  They live around 1000 miles away, so I highly doubt any of them would be able to make it, but I want them to know they're included, nonetheless.  If I'm close with them, is it still gift grabby, or like a nice gesture?

Is this the only shower that your aunts and grandmothers are invited to?  If so, then I feel that you should always invite them to let them feel included.  Let them choose if they can come and/or send a gift.

I agree with MattsPenguin. It would be a nice gesture to invite them - even though they are so far away, they'll appreciate the invitation. I don't think it looks gift grabby at all. You just want them to know they're still included, which is very thoughtful :)

I think when it's close family (as opposed to like your FI's boss' wife or someone you barely know) it's completely acceptable to send invites to OOT guests, especially if it's your only shower.  I've been invited to close friends' showers in other states, and I've never thought it was "gift-grabby," because it was someone I was close enough to that I would've expected to be invited to their shower, KWIM?

Thanks, Ladies.  That's what I figured.  My mother was just very hesitant about it, so I wanted to know that I wasn't the only one who thought it was okay.  :)
