Things I do not get

Gay Catholics.

Seriously I've met so many gay guys who go to Catholic mass on a regular bases lately and it surprises me some how. I was raised Catholic but have not attended mass in a while. Some of these guys have been encouraging me to return. It's.. IDK.. weird to me.

What do you not get?

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Are you saying you dont get why catholics would be gay? Or how a gay man could be catholic?

On the same note - Gay Republicans.

I think they're a little easier to understand than Gay Catholics, but still. I always wonder a little about it.

  • 1. Jersey Shore or any other show remotely like it.
    2. Horoscopes (brought to you by Weird Al's hillarious Horoscope song on my Pandora)
  • So wait, you can't be Gay and Republican? What if everything about being republican - sans anything that has to do with homosexuality - like financials, etc are in line with what you believe? Aren't those important?

You dont have to believe in traditional "liberal" things just because you're a dude who likes other men...
  • Really long engagements. To be clear, I'm not saying they're stupid--I just don't get them.

We were engaged for eight months, and it felt like eternity. My parents were engaged for six weeks. SIL was engaged for three years, as was H's cousin/best friend.
  • I don't get the Bachelor.

In the entire series, one couple has lasted. And rumor has it, that season was staged because they were already dating for a year when the season began.
  • I don't get people who think you have to be a liberal atheist if you're gay.

    Agreed.
  • I do not get what this has to do with etiquette but I will take a stab at it. There are many people who struggle with certain elements of their own religion. This does not only apply to gay catholics but pro-choice ones as well. Hope this helps.
  • Special, I could be considered in a long engagement to some people and I don't get it either. I wish we would have gotten married earlier but at least there's only five months left!

I don't think you can't be gay and Republican, I just think it would be kind of tough to stand on the same side as a lot of people who don't think you should have the same rights as everyone else. KWIM? Plenty of conservative values are things I think are great for anyone to have, gay or not. I just think it might be tougher to sit on that bench?

Well, shoot. I thought this was etiquette related.

    Lurk a little bit.

  • I just kind of look at it this way. We decided to get married, so let's get married. Honestly, the only reason we waited so long was so my braces could come off and my family could come. My aunt, uncle and cousin are all teachers, and it was important that they be there.

I don't get giving your 9 year old daughter a LV bag. I saw it happen. I was floored. Then I saw her stuff it in an overfull shelf without the duster bag over it and I almost cried.

I work in a very relaxed setting (science labs... c'mon, we do whatever want), but people will full on sleep at their desks or on the couches in the hallway. WTF? This is work. They're paying you. Look interested or, at the very least, conscious.

Oh, I had a 26 month engagement. No regrets. There was a lot of shite going on at once in my family so waiting instead of piling it all on top was wonderful. For us, of course. I do understand the other side.

Set your expectations a little lower here, dear. Most of us who participate in NWR threads know each other's screen names well enough to know that we aren't talking wedding.

Prioritization. Different things are important to different people. You pick what the most important thing to you is, then you pick your party based on their stance on that particular thing. Do I think it's the best way to form your opinions and affiliations? No, but I get why/how people do it.

  • Sparent, do you mean sleeping while you're suppossed to be working or just sleeping at work even on your breaks? I used to take naps in the Home Depot break room all the time on my lunch or break, never on the clock.
  • My UU church has lots of gay former Catholics. Many of them believe in the majority of Catholic teachings, but they just couldn't handle being reminded every week that they were terrible people and their church didn't want them. Their words, not mine.
  • Heh.

    NWR- Monday Morning!

    NWR- Evening Thread!

    NWR- FFF

That would be amusing. to me, anyway.
