Getting in Shape

Bodybugg

I don't usually post on this board, but I look at it every now and then for some motivation. I just wanted to suggest an amazing tool that I have discovered. It's a calorie management system called the bodybugg. Basically, you wear it on your arm throughout the day and when you plug it into the computer, it tells you how many calories you have burned. You can also input your food calories, so that you can see if you are making a deficit, which is needed to lose weight.

I have been working out since February and have seen minimum weight loss. Ever since I got the bodybugg last month and started counting my calories, the weight has started coming off! It's definitely something that you should look into if you are struggling to lose weight. It takes away all the guess work.

They are quite expensive, but I promise you it's worth the investment! I got mine online at 24 hour fitness (http://mystore.24hourfitness.com/search.php?subcat=23).

Re: Bodybugg

  • I LOVE my bodybugg! I've lost 50 pounds so far since I started working out, 30 since I got my bodybugg. I got the display thing too, it was an extra $100, but I can see where I'm at throughout the day instead of waiting until I can sync it with  my computer. Right now I'm at 2492 for today, just over halfway to my target. :)
  • how many calories do you burn a day with your body bug.. particularly during your workouts? That sounds really motivating to know how many calories you would burn if you skip a work out.. so your more likely to work out .

  • I find that it is a HUGE motivator to work out. It's different for each person  but I'll post my info just as a guide.

The goal that it set for me is to burn 2450 calories/day. This is based on my height/weight/age/activity level/etc. Based on my goal to lose 1 lb per week, it says I should eat 1950 calories/day, which is plenty! More than I would have set while dieting.

So when I do a 1 hour workout  that involves some cardio (but it could be a circuit class, or something that is not PURE cardio), I can hit my goal. And then be able to eat the 1950 calories and still have a deficit. I usually burn around 400-500 calories in an hour of working out. More if it's hard pure cardio.

If I don't work out in a day, I barely crack 2,000 calories burned for the day (I have a desk job). This means I can only eat 1500 calories! So this really gets my butt to the gym, because I love to eat.

What I love is seeing how an active day (usually on the weekend) compares to a work day. For example, this Sunday I did an hourlong workout at the gym, but also walked around (leisurely) a huge estate/garden with friends for 3 hours and then ran errands for a few hours. I went over 3,000 calories burned! It makes me wish I had a more active job.

Of course, these calorie burns would be really low for someone who weighs more. The more you weigh, the more you burn doing the same things. A large man or obese person can easily burn 6,000 in a day, even though I could NEVER.  And someone tinier than me might thing 2450 is impossible for a day!

It really is a cool tool.
