Getting in Shape

poor clothing choices

Im just curious if anyone else struggles with this or if I am just crazy?Since starting this process, I have lost over 6" from both my waist and hips. The jeans I wore before I started losing weight, were snug on me, so its only logical that they would be too big on me now, way too big. so WHY do I still wear them? I have smaller jeans that fit and that i am comfortable in but I always grab the much bigger ones for some reason and realize later that it makes me look horrible.I almost feel FATTER in clothes that fit tighter than stuff that is very loose. Does this make sense? The jeans I am talking about are way too big on me, and I WANT to throw them out because I know if I keep them in the closet I will continue grabbing for them. I feel bad doing that though (by throw out I mean donate or something). Do you ever experience this?

Re: poor clothing choices

  • That happened to me with my work pants. Even though at that point i lost 20 lbs...I used to wear keep putting on my largest pair. Finally one of my friends (she's also one of my coworkers) told me i looked ridiculous in my pants. I had to wear a belt with them to hold them up...and all the fabric bunched up weird by my waist. It was embarrassing...but for some reason i kept doing it. Well after she told me that i went to the store to buy some new pants and it turns out i droped 2 sizes. As of today i've lost 31.8 lbs and those pants i bought...are getting too big. :)

I do the same with my work pants. There are 2 pairs I wear that are WAY too big are 16's, and the 14's I have are getting loose... yet I still wear the 16s and am constantly hitching them up whenever I walk around the office.
  • Im the worst when it comes to getting dresses! There are days that yes I feel sexy and confident and I go for something tighter that shows my body off, BUT.... I do feel more confortable in looser clothes. There are days that Im in my closet for 35 minutes trying to find the "right" outfit. I start off with the tighter fitting clothes and since I have a downfall of being overcritical of myself I end up in the sweats and t-shirt or hoodie. Thats just my comfort I guess. No matter how much weight I have lost since my biggest I still feel the same, which I have to keep reminding myself Im not. Im working very hard to love my body and be comfortable in my skin. Thanks to my FI I have gotten a lot more confidence in my body image. Your not alone girl! Were working hard and we should be confident in the clothes that show it off! Get rid of those jeans! No matter how you feel in the tigher ones, you know how hard you worked to fit your behind in them!
  • I think this is always a problem with weight changes. I think I have the opposite problem: I get so excited figuring out the smallest pair of jeans I can fit into, and then I assume I will never need the larger ones again and give them away to my mom. When I gain weight, it takes me forever to admit I need new pants. This is why I have a million pairs of size 8 jeans, one pair in size 10, and one pair in size 12, which I am currently wearing. I am silly.

  • I'm of no help here, but good call on the Don Draper quote...he is so fabulous!
  • I have had issues with that one myself.  You feel like crap in the old pants, but you still feel weird in the new ones.  You get so used to wearing pants that don't fit that when they are touching your skin, they almost feel tight and wrong.  It'll get easier, I can promise.  Just either toss the old pants or put them in a drawer when you replace them.  I'm sentimental and held on to my last pair of 14s until I was at my goal weight (6-7 pants sizes smaller!) for about six months.  You do get used to it, and clothes shopping gets more enjoyable, unless you've never enjoyed shopping, which is a different thing altogether. ;)
  • I do the same thing so I started buying dresses. I find that if I get the right shape they work as a lose weight and I get way more use out of them. I was up about 35 lbs from a year ago and I still have those clothes so I am slowly working them back into my rotation. Target usually has good dresses that I can wear for work with a blazer and then to go out with FI so that is my current favorite.
