Getting in Shape

Sugar

I just started logging everything I eat in The Daily Plate. (Thanks for that tip, btw.) I was really surprised at how much sugar I consume. Cals, fat, carbs, etc., I'm totally good. But way over in sugar. I get a lot from fruit and I don't go too overboard on sweets overwise. Do you all monitor how much sugar you consume? Do you have any tips on reducing daily sugar intake? Thanks ladies!

Nope, I count carbs. Generally speaking if there is a lot of sugar, there is a lot of carbs. I am not picky over sugars that occur naturally, but I generally only sweeten tea. I dont have a very big sweet tooth so I am indifferent to sugar to be honest.

I USED to use a lot of sugar though, but last year I attempted to do the 100 mile challenge and had to cut preservetives out of my diet. After going without sugar/sweetener sort of weened me off of it. This helps with getting you away from bad fats, sodium, and other bad things as well.
  • I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I've made a couple changes to cut back even more. I switched from vanilla soy milk to original (1g per serving) and my beloved applesauce is now unsweetened (Musselmann's is my favorite).

  • Well, lets see, according to TDP, I've had 162% of my daily recommended sugar today, and I've yet to have anything sweet.  Unless you count Kraft Peanut butter.  Mind you, I've also have 300%+ of my recommended protein, but that's my choice.

I think that as long as you're getting your sugar from natural sources (darn that banana, 14g of sugar! ;)  ) then you're fine.  I find that those numbers are pretty outta wack.

  • Thanks so much! That makes me feel better. I was also over protein, but that didn't really concern me. I'm definitely good on carbs. I'll try not to overanalyze TDP in the future Tongue out

  • Thanks for starting this thread FutureMs...I have also been thinking about sugars I have been consuming. I consume a lot of sugar simply with my breakfast. According to TDP when I logged it in there one day to see what calories were in my breakfast, I was almost over my sugars for the day already. Calories were only 300-400 though. LOL. I do a fruit smoothie for breakfast and it fills me up pretty well. I think I am pretty comfortable with my sugar intake as long as it is natural sugars and as long as I am also getting veggies and proteins and whole grains. :)
