Cabo Mexico - Review

Cabo Review:

We arrived at the airport in San Jose Del Cabo. Exiting the airport was a little confusing and we ended up going out the “residents” exit instead of the “visitor” exit, so as a result, we avoided all of the timeshare reps! We got picked up by Impala Transportation (excellent), and had a private ride to our hotel (Dreams) which was about 20 minutes. (in Los Cabos) I didn’t realize how much desert there was in Cabo (guess I should’ve researched that!), but as a result, the weather is beautiful. It was about 90 degrees and sunny every day, but not humid at all. I didn’t sweat one time during the entire 8 days we were there. At night, it got into the 60’s and was cooler than we expected. (we were there the first week of November).

We weren’t able to swim at all because the beach at our resort was not safe, but the water was beautiful (we were on the Sea of Cortez, but also saw the Pacific Ocean a few times).

We went on a Sunset Cruise (Cabo Escape) which was good (more of a booze cruise). They had an open bar and fajitas for dinner, plus a DJ. We rode around and saw Lover’s Beach and Divorce Beach and the Arch. We got a discount through Dreams and only paid $18 per person, which wasn’t bad. If you are looking for more of a dinner and show, check out the Cabo Rey cruise.

We also went on the Safari and Camel Ride Excursion with Cabo Adventures. We also got a discount (regular $99) and paid $66 per person. This was a lot of fun, but much longer than we expected. We got picked up at 10:40 am and brought to the Marina, where we had to “check in” and then wait for an hour until Noon to leave for the tour. We then got in another bus with a bunch of other people, and brought to the location of the beginning of the tour. The tour itself was about 2 hours which included a ride on a Unigog (open vehicle), a nature walk, the camel ride on the beach, an authentic Mexican lunch and a tequila tasting.

Transportation (taxis) in Cabo are pretty expensive. It was $25 one way from our resort to downtown Cabo San Lucas/the Marina. If your resort offers a shuttle, definitely try to take advantage of it. It is VERY easy to get a taxi though. There is someone standing outside of the mall who will get a taxi for you, and just about in every area there is someone who can get one for you (outside of restaurants, etc)., so you don’t have to worry about finding one yourself.

We took a taxi to Medano Beach one night, and ate at the Baha Brewing Company (at the top of a hotel over looking the ocean). The food there was amazing. I had the beef skewers which were huge and delicious. My husband loved their Raspberry beer.  Their prices were VERY reasonable compared to many other restaurants in the area. I believe my dinner was only $18. (we looked at the menu at the Baha Cantina and most dinners were about $30 to $40).

We also ate at Ole Ole on the Marina, which was awful. Definitely stay away from that restaurant. They were over priced and the food was horrible.

The Marina itself was really nice. There are a ton of restaurants and bars, and we walked around there a few times. The one night we were trying to find a place to each, a person outside of every restaurant harassed us, trying to convince us to eat there. It was really annoying, we just wanted to enjoy ourselves and walk around, and if you are going to harass me into eating at your restaurant, I’m not going to eat there. We also encountered some people selling Cigars, who offered “something illegal” as we walked past, but we just ignored them and were left alone. (there is security everywhere) and we ALWAYS felt very safe.

At the airport for our return flight home, things were a little confusing. The airport is pretty small, and our boarding pass said Gate 1 -  Boarding time 2:25pm. So we went to have lunch at Wings (awful! Don’t eat there). When we came out, we heard them announcing “last call” for our flight, and it was only 2:30pm! (the flight wasn’t leaving until 2:55pm). We quickly went to the gate and asked what was going on (they didn’t even have our flight posted on the board at the gate, they had the next flight posted). Nobody could give us an answer, so we don’t know why that happened. I guess they just boarded really quickly? ( We didn’t leave early though). Luckily, we heard that announcement, or there is a good chance we could’ve missed our flight!!

Overall, Cabo was great and we’d most likely return in the future. The weather was perfect. I’d probably prefer to stay closer to the Marina or Medano beach next time, to save money on transportation and to give us something to do at night, when there is nothing going on at the resort.
