Hey all! FI and I have spent a lot of time trying to find someplace to go for our honeymoon, that's affordable and cool enough during the summer that he can go outside. We're both big on the great outdoors, so we thought a trip to Colorado would be reasonable. I know there are things to do there, but I honestly don't know how to go about doing it, where to go, etc. As far as what we'd like to do while there, We'd love to see the mountains, go hiking (and bike riding if at all possible), swimming and fishing. We also enjoy walking around window shopping, we like museums and national monuments, etc. We are not very big on the night life (not really into clubs, partying, bars, etc) but we do enjoy good food.

We will have our car with us, so I'm not opposed to driving as much as an hour outside of Denver to see and do things as well. I've tried looking in tourist guides of the area but I would like to hear from people who have been there. So if anybody has suggestions I'd be thrilled to hear them! Thanks! :)

I lived in Denver for 3 years. You can get to the foothills in less than a hour from Denver, but a place like Vail would be an hour away.
There are some 14ers that you can hike while you are out there. Some are easy hikes others are hard.

Downtown has the 16th Street Mall, which is an outside mall that you can take a free shuttle up and down.
The Denver Art Mussum is pretty cool. They also have a Mint and Molly Brown's house. Depending on the time you are going, they have a Taste of Colorado downtown.

You should at least visit Rocky Mountain National Park.  Estes part is the closest place to stay.  Lots of kids in June, but the park is huge and there is so much to do and see.
You could take a day trip to Colorado Springs and see Garden of the Gods park or Seven Falls.  If you stay the night, you could schedule a bike ride DOWN Pikes Peak.  There are companies that will drive you up to the top and provide you with equipment to bicycle down.  It will be cold up there!

I love Denver! I am actually moving up there after our wedding.... You should definitely go to Rocky Mtn National Park, Estes Park, Red Rocks (even better if u can catch a concert there) and there is some places, I think Glenwood is one of them, with (not sure if completely natural) Hot springs, I have never been there but I saw pictures and looks really cool, especially if u like hot tubs and stuff like that, I am actually visiting my fiance in 2 months and I told me we need to go there!! Denver is amazing if ur an outdoor person and like mountains and breathtaking views... depending on the month ur visiting u could also ride a hot air balloon, its a little expensive but I am sure is worth it! good luck!

Glenwood Springs is great, but it is a three hour drive from Denver, on the western slope of the Rockies.

Thanks everyone! We probably won't do any mountain climbing, because while Denver itself is a high altitude and that's fine, FI has smaller-than-normal lungs due to congenital defects he was born with, so I think we'll want to avoid much physical exertion in altitudes much higher than that (like the 14ers would be). I think he could be okay coming down, but walking or riding the bikes up the mountain would be a poor idea, lol. He's very interested in riding the bike down Pikes Peak, so we might look into that. Thanks again! :)
