Late March in Europe?

I know it will always be hit or miss-- and I did try looking at averages-- but is anywhere reliably warm in Europe in late March/early April except the Canary Islands?  I wasn't sure if anyone would have experience in Europe for their honeymoon aroundthis time.  I've been in Paris in March and it's been 85 degrees-- and then went back in August and it was 50! So I'm just not sure what to do.

I really would like to go to Europe for our honeymoon, but I think my FI would be thrilled if we could get a couple of relaxing warm days into the mix.

    Have you looked at Spain? We were in France and Spain for the last two weeks of March for our honeymoon. France was cold and wet (but still beautiful!), but Spain was sunny and warm. We were in Barcelona and didn't see too many people in the water, but I wonder if you went south if you'd have more beach-luck.

    Thank you! I'll add it to the list.  I don't think we'd need to be able to go swimming (I'd imagine the water would be freeeezing), but it woud be nice to have some sunshine and just be able to sit outside for a few days-- Pittsburgh can be a little chilly in Mach!

    I traveled to Spain several years ago the last week of March and first week of April and had near "perfect" spring weather, meaning that there was very little rain and usually sunny skies probably 75% of the time! It was cooler in Barcelona but was in the 70's in the southern part of the country. I have links below to all of the places I visited in Spain during that visit.

    I actually went to the canaries in late to mid March and it wasn't that warm. We laid on the beach, but not very comfortably. So I wouldn't bank on that. However, Barcelona did have great weather. It's all luck, unfortunately

    We went to Amsterdam/Paris/Barcelona/London last March/April.
    Barcelona had several 70/80 degree days while we were there.  We went to the beach to relax and were disappointed we didn't have bathing suits; but the water was still pretty cold.

    Incredible! Thank you all so much for your advice, it's incredibly helpful.  I'll look into all of these!

    And actually one of my ideas was to do southern Italy - Amalfi Coast and all that.  I can't wait to start planning! :)

    Most of southern Europe should be warm.

    For our honeymoon, which we just took last month (early April), we went to Sicily and it was hot the whole week. Like, sundress or shorts and sleeveless shirt hot. We also definitely needed sunscreen. It was lovely!

    That sounds great (and congratulations!). I studied abroad in the South of France and it's my favorite place in the world-- I'd love to take my FI there to see where I used to live.  I think it would be a great idea to do that and also go to Sicily-- we're hoping to take two weeks, but that will depend on what he gets off from work. If anyone who went to Siciliy has any 'can't miss' places/things to do/etc, I'd love to hear them! I'm sure there are other posts on the boards about this, but since we're already here.... Wink

    I will third (or fourth?) the Spain recommendation - check out Madrid and Seville.  They should be perfect that time of year.

    When we stopped in Sicily on the cruise ship we took the trip to Taormina.  It was so beautiful in the mountains with breath taking views and some old ruins.  If I were to go back to Sicily I'd definitely go back there.

    I would suggest the Southern coast of Portugual. It's more affordable and less crowded than Spain's coast/The Canary Islands.  You could do three days in Lisbon and 3-4 days at a beach resort.  The beach resorts are not far away from Lisbon, and you would not have to drive - they have a reliable, efficiant, and affordable train network.  Try the nearby city of Cascais.  It also has a world-class art deco casino.  Try also the nearby city of Sintra, which has an AMAZING pastel colored castle.

    Here's a breakdown:

    Queluz - Palace mixing Versailles' French grandeur and Portuguese eclecticism
    Cascais - Playground of nobility; picturesque resort; a surfer's paradise
    Estoril - The inspiration for James Bond; Europe's largest casino; spectacular golf courses
    Lisbon - The Age of Discovery, World Heritage monuments, museum treasures, vibrant nightlife
    Ericeira - Traditional seaside village; surfing mecca, superb seafood
    Mafra - One of Europe's biggest palaces, the building that bankrupted the nation

    The almalfi coast of Italy is nice that time of year. It's very pretty and has a few nice beaches. Also by Italy's high speed trains you can do great day trips out into other parts of Italy.
