My fiance and I have decided to go to Mackinac Island for our honeymoon. Any recommendations on where to stay + what to do? We're planning on being there for 8 days, and our budget is about $5,000.

You HAVE to go to the butterfly house. IT is sooooo pretty!! Very worth the time. If you are active, then rent a tandem bike and ride around the island. There are some great trails. Actually, one of my friends got engaged there. How romantic!!
As far as where to stay....it depends on what you are looking for. The Grand Hotel is absolutely stunning, but it's also very very expensive (you have to dress for dinner there!!) There are lots of Bed and Breakfasts there, which is fun. But the hotels there are nice, too. Just make sure you stay on the island and not on the mainland.

Sara, you might get some better answers if you post this on the Northern Michigan board, or even the Detroit board. See "Local Wedding Boards" to the left and ask this on the local boards.
Whiile a lot of people on this board may have been to Mackinac, you improve your chances with the Michigan boards.

We took a recent trip there and didn't find that there was much to do there. If you want a really relaxing, lazy day type trip, then it might be a good choice, but if you are the type who needs a ton of action, there isn't much to do on the island that will take more than 2 days.

I love it there, did the ride around the island and it was so peaceful and pretty. You can stop at some deserted areas to swim too!
