I have two more nights to book in Maui and a car to rent and we'll be ready to go!  For those of you who have been to Maui, I need some help deciding where to stay for these two nights.  We're flying in from Oahu on a Thursday and already have a place booked in Lahaina for Saturday and Sunday.  Where would be a good place to stay for Thursday and Friday?  My orginal thought was Wailea so we would be closer to the Road to Hana but I didn't realize that you can't easily get to it from the south.  Do you think it's still worth staying in that area or would you recommend somewhere else?  We'd like to do a sunset cruise and a luau while we're there, unless we go to a luau while we're in Oahu.  Thanks!

I personally think Wailea is different enough from Lahaina to give it a shot. Wailea is a bit quieter, has some very high end shopping and restaurants and a few high end hotels (Four Seasons, Kea Lani, Grand Wailea) all right in a row. We stayed at the Kea Lani but easliy walked to the Four Seasons for dinner one night. I think it would be a nice romantic, laid back stay and would end your honeymoon on a high note.

I think you should find one place to stay the entire time in Maui.  You're going to want to relax on your honeymoon, not waste time repacking and schlepping your luggage to a new place.

It doesn't take that long to get around the island as long as you have a plan.

I agree.  Lahaina to the beginning of the Road to Hana is only about 30 minutes. And you can do a dinner cruise and luau right out of Lahaina.  We went to the Old Lahaina Luau which is right on Front Street. And the harbor is right there too!

Wailea definitely isn't close to the Road to Hana.  I would suggest just staying in one hotel, 4 nights really insn't that long.  Why waste time moving to another hotel.  Especially if you want to do the Road to Hana.  That will take a full day.  My FI and I did the whole loop to Hana and around the back, and it took 8 hours.  If you really want something differnet why not Hana then?  Its much more romantic IMO to be somewhere away from the hordes of tourists and cookie cutter honeymoon resorts for a bit.  google bed and breakfast hana

What'd you think of the Old Lahaina Luau, I was looking into that one as well?

Thanks, all!  we've already booked and paid for 2 nights at the Lahaina Beach Shores Resort, I would have stayed all 4 nights there but I was having a difficult time finding a room for the days we would be there at a reasonable price.  The studio we booked had a two-day gap in their reservations so it worked out well for us.  Maybe we'll hit the Road to Hana one of the 2 days we're staying in Lahaina.  I like the idea of staying at a B&B closer to Hana and will check that out.  I contacted a rental house awhile ago near there, but they required a 5-night stay.  We're headed to the Big Island for 5 nights after Maui so we'll have plenty of time to relax there.

I really enjoyed it. It is a tradional luau so there's no flying knives or fire but plenty of "hula" dancing. The grounds are really pretty as they sit right on the water.

I just booked a completely secluded one-bedroom house near Hana for the 2 remaining nights.  As soon as I told my fiance it has an outdoor shower, he said SOLD.  Thanks for all of your feedback!

One more piece of advice.  Rent a convertible!  You won't regret it.  I think we got ours from Thrifty or Budget and it was a very reasonable price.

I think we're going to rent a Jeep in Maui (the lady we're renting the house from said there's rough terrain to get to the house) and a convertible in Hilo.  Thanks!

For those who have gone to the Old Lahaina Luau, did you book your tickets before you left for your honeymoon or we're you easily able to get reservations once you were there?  Thanks!
