Inviting Employees

What do yo do when you have an employee (I'm a manager of 8 people) that thinks they are invited to the wedding. Mind you, I've never mentioned anything about the size of the wedding or who was invited at all. I've known this person for about 6 years and I feel if I invite her, then i need to invite the rest of my employees (3 of them i'm not close with at all) the other five i have conversations with them on a daily basis, but no outside of work relationships. Do I just hope that she doesn't question why she doesn't get an invitation or invite her so i don't have a pissed off employee?

    What has she done or said that makes you think she thinks she's invited? If she comes out and asks, that's rude on her part. I would just say, "Unfortunately we aren't able to invite everyone we would like to." You don't have to invite any employees especially if you are not close with them. Having said that, if you ARE close with one or two, I think it's fine to invite them and not the others.

    If you don't want her (or others) asking about being invited to your wedding, it would be wise to not bring up the wedding at all while at work.

    If you want to invite her, do so.  You are not obligated to invite everyone you share water cooler chit-chat with.

    I am inviting 3 of my co-workers, in an office of 50+ people.  Nobody seemed surprised if they weren't invited.

    I have a few close friends that I work with and have known for a long time.  I told them that we are having a very small wedding with only family (which is true and the way we wanted it) and I can't afford to have everyone in the office invited.  I read an article that said that if you invite one then you should invite them all because everyone wants to feel special.  If you single out your "Best Friends" then those excluded don't feel special.  Sounds like a bunch of high school games but in my office that would be incredibly true!!!  So no one is invited which works out for me but instead I'm having a separate party with office folks.
