The appropriate time to announce your engagement would be after you get engaged.

I'm having a 2 year engagement and my FMIL and FSIL threw us an engagement party just over 2 months after we got engaged. It would be weird to have one any later than a few months after you get engaged because the whole point of an e-party is to celebrate the new engagement. It's not really new after 6 months or a year.

Definitely announce your engagement right away. I've seen couples with long engagements have an E-party within few months of getting engaged and around 1 year out (when planning really begins). Just remember, you don't throw your own engagement party. If no one offers to throw you one, you don't get one.

Announce your engagement right after you get engaged! This can let people know and give someone the chance to take the lead in planning an e-party if they so choose.

Also, some words of advice especially if you are going to have a 2 year engagement is not to pick your bridal party till about 8 months or so before the wedding. Try not to pick out things too early like the venue unless it gets booked up quickly as the prices could change.

I am geting married in june of this year and we started seriously planning in September of 2011, that is when I got my dress and I would not have wanted to get it any earlier.

One last thing, once you get something off your list, stop looking at that thing in magazines, online, whatever. There will always be something else you could do or add. For examle once you get your dress stop looking!!!

Best of luck, I'm not sure I understand if you are engaged or not.

Announce your engagement right away. An engagement party can occur anytime the two of you are engaged, however it is thrown in your honor not by you. Do not ask your WP until less than a year out.

other than calling our immediate family, we announced our engagement to family an friends after we came back into the country ... FI's brother hosted an engagement party the same day we came back ... we are also having 2 yr engagement .... our venue area is already booked due to them doing one wedding a day and us wanting a specific day we started loooking in Dec an booked by Jan happy to say I love where were getting married!

my advice, go at your own pace of planning the wedding, obviously don't do last min or you'll pay an arm and leg but research everything ... I believe this site provides a "guideline" of when to do things.
