So My fiance and I are buying a house together. Yes, we have already decided what should happen if the wedding falls through. At the same time, I feel like we are preparing for a failed situation. Anyways, I tried posting on the Nest too and everyone over there seems to not really accept my situation. So I can't talk to people on there, yet I don't want to run up this board on The Knot with all of trials and tribulations. I feel bad. But yay for the new house!

One of the PP on was a lady telling me she didn't agree with living together before marriage. Another post was a lady telling me that I need a back up plan, then went on to tell me that she isn't a fan.

But it's always seemed to me that this board is more of an announcement board than anything. It seems like a lot of the supportive camaraderie is on whichever other board one ends up posting on the most, whether it be local boards, month boards or general boards. When I was finishing buying a house, I discussed it with the women on NEY because we'd already been talking before and it was a more personal discussion. I guess I don't quite understand what seems to be sort of walking into a room full of strangers and announcing something unrelated to the topic at hand, especially when it was just one chick on The Nest who seemed to have her panties in a wad about living together prior to getting married.

But whatevs. Congrats on your house buying venture. Since you're buying a foreclosure, make sure you have a really good home inspection prior to going in, because if it's anything like the foreclosure we bought, the previous owners might have gotten a little angry about the impending foreclosing and destroyed a bunch of things including the ventilation and the plumbing. We've had some interesting things that we've had to deal with in our house, so you need to be prepared for pretty much everything.

ETA: And btw, the reason I said BOYFRIEND was because I can't imagine how butthurt that chick would be if she heard that a non-engaged couple was living together. That would certainly give her the vapors~

Congratulations and hope you find something you both love, if you didn't already stumble across something. Good luck with your financing and all the other details. My fiance and I planned before we got engaged that he purchased a house he could afford on his own, and I'm glad we didn't stretch our budget and have extra money from my paycheck to save towards fixing up the house, but you might have already thought of something like that as part of your back up plan :-)

Congratulations!

That's insulting. An engagement is you promising to be together for a lifetime. The marriage is the actual paperwork. I'm pretty sure you aren't going to wait until the "I do" to know 100% that you two will be together for life. My husband and I have been married for about 5 months, and have owned our house, cars, credit cards, bank accounts, etc jointly for two years. Life couldn't be more perfect for us, before or after the wedding.

Don't let others get you down. You clearly know that he is the one for life since you agreed to marry him, so what's the big deal? House hunting is overwhelming and exciting. Just make sure you two give yourselves a break from home-buying and wedding talk from time to time. ;)

Congrats! FI and I bought our house several months before we were even engaged. And both our names are on the title. I know there are a lot of people who would not agree with our decision and the way we went about it, but ultimately, it's our lives and our money to do with as we please.

Congrats! My FI and I bought our house over 2 years ago and we wern't even engaged at the time. Who cares what people think. My family didn't agree but in the end all that matters is what you feel is right and is making you happy. I wouldn't have done anything differently. Don't let other people bring you down.

When everyone was asking us to sign papers to where something were to happen IF IN THE EVENT SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN. I am all for being prepared, and we have talked about it. But its something we don't want to plan for. I feel like preparing to fail will in turn cause you to fail..I don't know. I guess it is a just my way of thinking..Its odd because I think preparing for bad times is something everyone should do. I don't want to prepare for if things don't work out (the failed situation) I don't know. I guess I am a little odd. I don't want to think about things ending. I don't think anyone does.
