Just Engaged and Proposals

Engaged!!! Now what?.....

I recently got engaged this Christmas... (he did it on the beach!) and I wasn't expecting it at all. I am still in college and I feel really overwhelmed by the whole wedding venture. I will be graduating next December and I am starting to feel like everything is happening at once....

Does anyone have any advice?Surprised

Re: Engaged!!! Now what?.....

  • Congrats on your engagement.  I agree with others taken a sec to enjoy being engaged.  First thing when you begin planning is to set a budget.  Then look at when you want to get married - time of year, the type of wedding you want etc.  You can then set a date and book your ceremony site and reception site.  After that, you can book with the rest of your vendors.

Good luck with the planning. IT's so much fun

  • OMG! I TOTALLY know what you mean!  Overwhelmed isn't the word.  I got engaged at TXGiving..at first we thought it would be SOO easy, then I realized, I had NO clue what to do.   The girls here on the knot have been SUCH big helps. EVERYone kept telling me - Breath, stay calm, do one thing at a time - ....that's the BEST advice, and that's the advice that I, from experience, will now give to you.
Brian and I are still trying to pick our reception site, there's a lot to choose from!.  It's easiest if you pick your budget first..then your guest list...then wittle it down to a happy number! (don't worry about a FINAL guest list, just a list of who you want at the wedding, and who you have to have at the wedding, you can add and subtract until shortly before the wedding)

THEN search for your catering hall.  Once you have your catering hall picked, then pick your ceremony location. After that..it's best to follow the lists that the knot provides for us.  Pick what's most important to you and do in that order.

It's SO much easier breaking things down and doing one at a time. IT's very exciting, but overwhelming when you think of it all at once.  One thing at a time, and it will all come together.
Wow!  THANKS to all the knotties!!   I'm finally giving my first big advice!!   Soon, you will too. (Do I sound like an infomercial?  LMAO!  I'm still excited!)
Remember that if you need anything, we're all here to help one another.  And be prepared to change your mind about things a LOT... Almost all the brides I speak with here tell me that.
    Congrats!!!

  • HI OP!
My story is similar to yours:
Engaged on Christmas, didn't expect it, in the snow where we first kissed.

I'm in graduate school and I wont have my Masters until 2012. We're enjoying a long engagement and marrying Spring 2011, but I know the time will fly.

I have to sell my home, we have to buy our home, plan and wedding and start an internship.

I just joined today bc I need advice on this stuff too, but one piece I can share with you: Enjoy your engagement, it's the shortest phase of your relationship, and do what you 2 want to do for the wedding.
