I was planning on having a church wedding because it would mean a lot to my bio-dad and not to sound lazy, but the seating in a church is already set up and that would be one less thing to worry about

I was planning on having a church wedding because it would mean a lot to my bio-dad and not to sound lazy, but the seating in a church is already set up and that would be one less thing to worry about the day of. I'm also terrified of the weather being not lovely.

The more I thought about it though, the more I'd love to have the ceremony in my grandmother's yard. I'm estimating about 200 guests. She has a small, 8' round flower bed in the middle of the yard. Would it look okay to stand in the flower bed and have the seats arched around in a semi circle, or would it be easier to put them in straight rows off to the side and just modify where we would stand?

Has anyone been to a wedding with curved seating? How did it flow? Could you see and hear the ceremony? Any advice would be appreciated.

We are doing something similar. Arena seating where it curves around us slightly. Our tent has a fountain in the middle. And the ceremony is between a pond and lake

I've seen several with curved seating and it looks really nice!  Plus it actually makes it easier to see up front because the chairs are slightly staggered and you don't have a head in front of you.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

We're doing curved seating. Our ceremony is going to be on the patio, which is three connected circles (sort of). We're in the center circle, under a tree, and the guests will be in both of the side circles, with their chairs following the curve of the patio.

From what you describe, curved seating would be really pretty. Here's an example: clicky

Something to think about: depending on how the yard is structured, with things like hills, other flowers, etc, you might want to take some measurements and make a to-scale mock-up of the yard to see how the chairs will actually fit. You may end up scooting around those, if it's not perfectly flat.

It sounds like the semi-circular seating will work out great! I would take measurements to make sure that everyone has enough room to get to their seats. I love the circular seating trend though!!
