Brunch For Midday Reception

We need help deciding what to do for our Recpetion:

We are having our wedding at 12pm with the reception following probably at 1:00pm. We would like to have brunch for the reception which would include: Sausage, bacon, Eggs, Waffles, Grits, Hash Browns, Fruit, bread and juices.

Should we tell people before hand so they wont eat before coming and then have breakfast again?
Has anyone ever had a brunch reception around this time period of day.
We'd have around 100 people and was trying to keep our budget around $1,000 for the Recpetion.

Re: Brunch For Midday Reception

  • In my opinion, a reception that starts at 1:00 is a little late for just the breakfasty portion of brunch.  Could you add a carving station - maybe ham or roast beef?  Maybe some roasted potatoes?  I'd also think a vegetable - green beans, aspargus, even a salad.

Don't get me wrong, I love brunch, but there's no way you can ask your guests to not eat breakfast if your ceremony doesn't start until noon.  If you want to do only breakfast, you should think about moving your ceremony to 9:00 or 10:00, with the corresponding earlier reception.

  • I agree with PP, I think it is a tad late to serve only breakfast food. If you could add a few lunch items to your menu I think it would be a lot better. As for telling your guests not to eat before hand, that is a bit difficult to do when your reception isn't until noon anyways. I love breakfast don't get me wrong, but at 1pm, I'd prefer more lunch type foods.

  • I would say "Brunch reception to follow" so people know a full meal will be served.

I also agree with the others - try to add some lunch food in with the breakfast options!
  • I wasn't going to have them to not eat. Just have them to know that we are going to have breakfast food at lunch and they can eat breakfast but just know that we would have breakfast for our wedding reception

We understand what you are saying.  What everyone who has responded (and i agree with them) is that 1:00 is too late for breakfast food.  Serve food that would be a luncheon.

Okay that makes sense. What about a fish and grits type addition? It's more of a southern type of thing, and since we live in Georgia. This way it incorporates a little bit of the breakfast food and also the lunch. But I believe it still would have to have a few more items for what we are looking for to make it complete. What about a pasta bar? We first thought about having a pasta bar. We would have three meats; meatballs, chicken, and sausage. for the pasta we would have been a pasta, spaghetti, and bowtie pasta. We would also have your basic salad with the dressings and sauces for the different meats. We would also have your basic fruit and cheese tray. At first we thought that the pasta deal would be a little too much. That is why we thought about going to the breakfast menu because it would be a little bit cheaper for our budget. What are your thoughts?Thank you.
  • I think shrimp n' grits, a pasta bar, and either a basic salad bar OR a carving station would be more than enough to round everything out.

I think a pasta bar with salad would be very nice and still might be able to do done cheaply.  I personally am a picky fish eater so the fish and grits is less appealing to me, but only you know how it would go over with your guests.  In my opinion, the pasta bar offers you a lot more flexibility, particularly if you also offer some veggie add ins (peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, squash or zucchini, etc.), a good grated cheese and a couple of sauces.  People can really take and make what they like.  Depending on your circle, you might want to think about offering one of your pastas in a gluten free option (either a rice or corn pasta, for example), in case of allergies.

ETA: The above is if you substitute a pasta bar for the brunch.  If you are simply adding pasta dishes to your previous brunch menu, I think you be okay with just a couple of options - a meat, a couple of veggies, maybe a one or two sauces, one type of pasta.
