Cake Flavors

We are going Saturday to do our tasting for our cake. We are so excited and have been looking at flavors we think we would likely go with. I need your help ladies! Our cake is 3 tiers and each can be a different flavor. Obviously we need to taste them first but we would like something all guests will like. So I want to know out of these choices which would you like. Also what flavor is your cake?

Re: Cake Flavors

  • I like PB the best :)
We are having 12 flavors for our cakes..
Were having a 4 tiered cheesecake that is NY and White Chocolate..
And then 10 flavors of mini cheesecakes.

  • We have our tasting next weekend!  :)

We have to give them 3 different taste/filling/frosting combos that we want to try.

I have no idea what we'll try.. so many options!!!  :)

But, on that list, I'd go with marble.  :)  YUM!
    Anniversary
  • We are doing a small cake (for us to cut) and cupcakes.  Our cake will be red velvet with cream cheese filling, and the cupcakes will be half red velvent and half white.  Yum!
  • Also, I would be careful with a peanut butter cake.  A lot of people are allergic to peanuts, and if that layer is touching any of the other layers, those people won't be able to have any dessert at all.
  • My mom said the same thing about the peanut butter cake. That's why we aren't sure what we want because that was one of our top choices.

  • we're doing 4 different flavors of cupcakes, i would definitely do one chocolate, one vanilla then get a wild card flavor.... usually 90% of the people will like either chocolate or vanilla

but like a pp said, check to make sure there are no peanut allergies.  my mom's super allergic to oranges (weird) and our caterer said they wouldn't have any oranges in the kitchen while they were preparing our food :)
  • I would love the pb, but not everyone would. The Italian cream sounds yummy.

Our cake is 3 tiers...top and bottom will be vanilla chiffon with white chocolate mouse and raspberries. The middle tier will be decadent chocolate with choc mouse with raspberries. I am soooo excited for this cake! I couldn't stop eating it at the tasting. Mmmmm....I can taste it now :)
  • We're doing three flavors as well:

    Funfetti w/ vanilla bean filling
    Chocolate w/ peanut butter filling
red velvet w/ cream cheese filling

  • I agree with the other ladies about the PB. I love it but some people are very allergic! We are doing a yellow cake with strawberry and key lime filling.

  • I voted peanut butter- I love it! But I do agree with PPs that it might be an issue for those with allergies.
    We're having a 4-tier cake with 2 flavors:

    1. Vanilla cake with cannoli filling
    2. Vanilla cake with strawberry shortcake filling (with fresh strawberries)

The cake will be iced with french buttercream.

You could ask your baker to do a PB sheet cake. That way it'd still be an option but it wouldn't touch the other layers. Just a thought since it's one of your top choices.

  • Oh!  I just bought my cake!  It is SO GOOD.  The bottom is pink champagne with apricot cream (though it'll probly get changed to peach cream at request of groom).  The middle is red velvet with cream cheese and european buttercream.  And the top layer is orange creamsicle with orange creamsicle and buttercream filling. All covered with a mix of regular and european buttercream, then fondant. Yum, yum, yum.  I had such a hard time finding somone that made pretty cakes that tasted good.  But I'll admit I am SO looking forward to eating it and could have chosen almost any of their flavors.
  • I've never even heard of peanut butter cake!  Sounds yummy, though.

We are having marble (which is really a layer of white/buttercream filling/then a layer of chocolate, all topped with more buttercream as our first flavor and then red velet with chocolate ganache filling & buttercream topping

I love PB so if it's at all possible to respect possible food allergies and still serve that, that's my first choice!

We are having tiramisu for two tiers and then dark chocolate with a chocolate ganache in one layer and salted caramel in the other.  Our bottom tier is actually a double cake so the chocolate will be that one since it's a much denser cake.  We are frosting with a buttercream/cream cheese mix and just a small strip of fondant which is purely for decorating purposes! :)
  • We are having coconut cake with coconut creamcheese filling.

  • If you discover there are any peanut allergies, dont bother doing multiple cakes or different layers out of respect for them. Does no good. Even if they opt to skip your cake, they can come in contact with it a million different ways (tables, even shaking hands)! And just a heads up, there are several family members who, even after years of shared meals, dont know about my allergies, so be thorough when asking about allergies. Trust me, anaphylactic shock isnt pretty and I doubt you want to be sticking epipens in people on your wedding day lol.  I was the kid at school who got letters sent home to all of the other kids parents banning pb&j's and all of the other things kids love from being brought to lunch (made me the most hated kid in school), Although i did get my own peanut free zone lunch table lol! VIP

I say stick with chocolate or marble, not for the allergy factor, just because it will please the masses!

I'm a cake traditionalist... I voted for the white, but they all sound good. :) Our cake is almond with chocolate filling and vanilla with raspberry filling.  Our groom's cake is chocolate with caramel filling.
  • We are doing two flavors - one with a devil's food cake and another with regular vanilla.  Just make sure you choose a light colored cake to go on the bottom - that's the tier you'll cut and you don't want to get messy!  I didn't even think of that until I had my cake consult Smile

The first thing i thought when i saw peanut butter...unless you have personally asked every single person about allergies (and not just to mention them on a menu card), peanut allergies are so common and often go unspoken because people dont want to make a big deal about it if they know(or suspect) its not in the meal options anyways.

  • We are doing three tiers-- one lemon poppy with citrus creme filling and one Chambord chocolate with raspberry filling.
    Anniversary
  • We are doing different flavors on different tiers as well.  Peanut Butter, Mocah, Hazelnut, and Lemon Rasberry.

I was worried about the peanut butter, but I figured there are plenty of other choices, and that is the one we really like (that and mocah).

  • Our 4 layer cake is 4 different flavors:
bottom layer - Marble (FI's pick)
2nd layer - Yellow Butter Rum (baker's pick - I asked him what the most popular was)
3rd layer - Red Velvet (my pick)
Top layer (to save for anniversary) - Pound Cake (because it freezes well)

The entire cake will have buttercream icing.
