We were just planning on having beer and wine at our outdoor reception, but now we are throwing around the idea of having one signature cocktail. The only thing I am worried about is people getting wasted and driving home...our venue is about 10 miles from town on a curvy road. I also don't want someone to get completely trashed and make a scene...Is it worth it to have a signature cocktail? And what are some ideas? I thought it would be fun to have something to go with our colors (black, white, and lime green), or something summery since our wedding is in August.

Will you have a bartender?  They should be experienced enough to tell when someone has had enough.  I say go for the signature cocktail if you want.

I am "deaf-initely" one of a kind.

I don't think that adding a signature cocktail to your bar will be the cause of drunk driving.  People will drink the same amount whether it's beer/wine or beer/wine/signature drink.  Presumably you have certified bartenders, and if people choose to overindulge then that is their choice.  You can offer taxi or shuttle services if you are concerned.

If you are looking for a green signature drink, you can't go wrong with a margarita.

Unfortunately, some people are just as likely to drive drunk no matter what kind of alcohol you serve.  People really shouldn't plan on drinking ANY alcohol and driving.  You can help by offering shuttle service (if it's in your budget) or by researching taxi companies in your area and making sure their phone numbers are available at your venue (maybe put flyers in the restrooms).

It's usually a good idea to close the bar an hour or so before the end of the night.  Bartenders SHOULDN'T serve people who are noticeably drunk, but keep in mind that a lot of people don't go to the bar to get their own drinks (for example, my gentleman of a fiance usually gets drinks for both of us), so some people may fall through the cracks.

I can get hammered on beer or wine... Not sure why a signature cocktail makes you more nervous about drunk driving.

You should do a limeaide for the green. Not alcoholic, but super yummy!

We got married in August and had "Loaded Lemonade", made with lemonade and lemon vodka. You could do the same with Limeade and vodka, it's really yummy Laughing

I also agree with everyone else. We had beer, wine and a signature drink. It's the bartender's job to monitor who they want to serve. People at our wedding who drink only beer could have become too drunk to drive with just beer. But they did not.
