Uplighting and Videographer

Okay so we didn't really think of uplighting or a videographer but now I'm reconsidering.  Are any of you doing either of these.

I don't really want the uplighting used/put on until after dinner when the dancing starts and I would only want the videographer there during the ceremony till cake cutting.

What are you guys doing?

Re: Uplighting and Videographer

  • We have a videographer from getting ready until the last dance.  It was important to us that we have everything documented, since our photographer is only available for 6hrs.  For uplighting, it will be on during dinner and dancing.
  • If money hadn't been an issue, I would have had uplighting for the whole reception. Unfortunately, we couldn't do it.

My husband originally didn't want a videographer but I researched videographers and convinced him to agree to one. Even though I love our photos, I am so glad we hired a videographer. We had our videographer from getting ready through about 2 hours of dancing. Our highlights video is amazing and really captured the emotion of the day.
  • We're doing uplighting the whole time, but the color will change when dancing starts - it's going to be a soft candellight color for dinner and then later in the evening when people are dancing it'll be dark blue. Then it's not colorful the whole time but adds a nice glow to the room prior to dancing.

We opted against a videographer, but I kind of wish we'd gone ahead and booked one. I know that my friends will end up recording the first dance, and toasts on their phones or something, so I'm okay with that. And we hired incredible photographers to get everything from getting ready on, so I know we'll have plenty of photos of the day. It would be nice though, to have our ceremony recorded, because from what I hear that ends up being a blur to many brides :)

  • We're having uplighting thru our DJ for the cocktail hour and reception rooms, but I think this is a cost to cut if you're on a tight budget.

We booked our videographer for 8 hours- from ceremony until after the cake cutting. A videographer was one of my top priorities so I think it's worth booking one, even for just a few hours.

  • We hired a videographer, awesome choice on our end...he was AMAZING!!!! It's so nice to watch the video and it's in super nice blueray quality! We didn't have uplighting due to costs, although I would have if money was not an issue.

  • We are absolutely having a videographer.  I would have considered skipping it, but our grandparents are very ill and unable to travel and if they mean a lot to us.  They are absolutely worth the $2000 we are spending on a videographer so they can at least see the ceremony/reception hilights after the fact, plus, it will be a nice keepsake to have after they are gone.

I want uplighting, but at the moment I am not sure if we can afford it.  It looks like it will come down to a full open bar vs. uplighting.  Unless my future inlaws decide to pitch in, the enjoyment of my guests (and their alcohol consumption) will outweigh my desire for amber uplighting.

    I hope this helps!

  • I didn't think of having a videographer until I met one at a bridal show. I took one of their sample DVDs home and ended up crying watching someone else's wedding. The quality was amazing and the whole day was captured. We hired them(husband & wife team) from the start of our day so about 11am until 5 hours into the receptions so about 10pm. This is one expense I won't ever feel bad about.
  • I know its not of professional quality, but we are having my uncle film our ceremony and I am considering him being there for our FL. we just can't afford the videographer, but having him do it will at least be a little something to have :-)
  • I wanted a videographer but didn't want to pay and arm and a leg for it. I got lucky at a bridal show and won 50% off videography, so we're only paying $500 for 12 hours of coverage, including editing and 5 DVDs (I'm very happy!). We are getting amber uplighting, I found a company that does it for a reasonable price so it won't break the budget.
