Uplighting worth it?

My DJ provides light services that include uplighting and letters (ie: monograms, wording on the dance floor).  My reception room is not huge, has plenty of windows , and is right on the water.  i've seen beautiful pictures of uplighting in soft colors to add a glow to the reception room but it is very pricey.  does anyone think it adds a lot of "umph" or should i just go without?

Uplighting can really transform a room.  It's one of those things that personally I think is great if you have the budget for it.  But if you don't, it's not the end of the world.  Kind of like Chivari chairs.
  • If I had the money I would have done uplighting.

  • Ditto PPs. If money was no object, I would have done uplighting.
  • My reception venue has uplighting in oe of their packages.  I was able to get the uplighting thrown in for free into our package.  It really does make a huge difference when it's in the room.  See if you can get it thrown in or at least discounted from your DJ!  Haggle, haggle, haggle! hehe

  • It really looks amazing, our venue just installed some uplighting and they are talking about installing more in the room.  Its really cool because you can change the color to fit your wedding.  But of course my fiance wants more lights!!! I told him if the venue doesnt install more then I dont know if we should get them from the dj because they are $100 a light and our room needs like 10!!

  • I don't know how is in States, but here in Canada the prices for uplighting is about 75$ from DJ to rent, the place where I am gonna rent most of my decor they have it for 30 $ each...that's a huge saving. You should try and find a decor rental company, it might be cheaper.
  • we're doing uplighting in our main color and doing minimul decor, that way we get the ambiance that we want and a grand effect with the best of both worlds, much less tear down by our decorators after
