Can't reply in Fallin's post

The link is open so I couldn't respond, but I completely agree.  If you decide your possessions are more important than your life, more power to you.  Just don't expect anyone to divert their attention from trying to save other people's possessions to save your life.

  • I agree with this in principle. But some of the workers at Lorne's family's farm ignoring the evacuation order are the reason they're still in business and only lost the one house. The fire came up the canyons so quickly that if they hadn't been there they'd have lost everything; by the time the firefighters got there it would have been too late. I guess I also see a difference between wanting to save your house because you like it and it's got neat things and in saving your livelihood though.

  • I don't blame people for staying and trying to protect stuff on their own.  And it makes more sense to do so when its your livelihood.  But at the same time, someone else's livelihood may burn to the ground while firefighters have to spend their time attempting to save you.  So is that really fair?  If you choose to stick around, I feel like you've made the conscious decision to accept what happens.

  • Yeah, I agree with that. The people who stayed were people that had worked for the farm for over 40 years. I think if it had gone, they wouldn't know what to do.

  • I wish the same thing applied to hurricanes. If they tell you to evacuate, provide you with a bus to evacuate, and you refuse to evacuate, don't complain once it's over that nobody came to rescue you.
