1.)Would you or have you searched your child's teachers?B.)If you found something unfavorable, what would you do about it?Humanimal.) What would you consider "unfavorable"?
I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz

Re: FB Related Pole

  • I'm just glad I'm not easy to find but I still came home and updated all my settings to make sure. Now I'm all paranoid that Big Brother is watching and sad that I have to think twice before sharing the creative names I come across.

  • I think I'm probably more tolerant of stuff like this because of my age.  If I saw something like drinking or bikini pictures, I might just mention to them that they may want to make it private so students can't see it. If it was something more serious, involving students, I would report it.

  • And fallin, if it was just some drunk pics, i wuld tell the teacher too, but if it was heavy illegal activity or something, i would report. yes, definitely agree.  Illegal or in any way involving students in a non-school setting.

  • I think teachers need to be super careful, obviously. My firm represented a couple of large school districts in the area. We had a major case involving a student taking inappropriate pictures in the classroom, where the teacher did not know that they were being taken. Plaintiff's counsel was finding every inappropriate picture of her on the internet, etc. It was awkward.

  • Joining a little late, but I'm shocked that teachers have to be reminded about this at all. Before I even got a job I set my profile to super private and deliberately pick the pictures I use so that I wouldn't have to worry about parents getting worked up. People are stupid.

  • She wasn't even doing anything. She was just sitting at her desk during "quiet time" or something. They were taking pictures when she wasn't looking and making inappropriate gestures towards her that she didn't see and taking photos. They posted these on FB and the students got suspended. One had rich parents and hired a big first amendment attorney saying that his first amendment rights had been violated for punishing his "off campus" speech, which technically, schools are not supposed to be able to punish you for. The teacher was very pretty and had unfortunately posed as a "Fan Girl" for some sports radio station when she was in college. Lots of semi-hot pictures. The argument was that she could not have been that upset about these photos being taken and posted if she had been okay with those photos being taken. It's a bit convoluded.

FYI, you can adjust your settings so that your profile pic doesn't show to anyone you aren't friends with. I have everything set to 'friends only', including my profile pic.

  • I'm sure that most people search their child's teachers, possible employers/employees, etc. As a teacher, I have my FB pretty locked up. I am friends with a few of my students' parents but have them locked out of wall posts and photo albums. And even though my pics and page are locked up to the general public, I certainly wouldn't post anything too naked or drunken or whatever on FB in the first place. Teachers are allowed to consume alcohol (THANK GOD, or we might not survive!!!) but it's just stupid to post really messed up pics online. I once had a parent tell me that he found me on FB and knew I had gone to New York the weekend prior - which was no big secret. But that's when it occurred to me that people could find me (this was a few years ago when FB first began). After that I made sure it was really secure. I would tell anyone who finds inappropriate pics or whatever on their teacher's FB to mention it to the teacher, first. If they don't know about privacy settings, someone should tell them. If they are stupid and are posting pics online that shouldn't be there in the first place, someone should give them the kick in the a** that they need, right?
