I'll try to make this brief. I'm recently engaged and my Fiance and I have been living together for over a year. His grandpa and great-grandma showed up yesterday unannounced to check out our new apt. I had already told my entire family about the engagement and they were thrilled. SO's mother's side also thrilled. He tells them while they are here and not one word. No congratulations, I'm so happy for you, good for you...nothing. They could have at least said congratulations to save face considering they were in my house. I thought maybe they were shocked?? But they didn't even call later or the next day. They knew he had the ring why would they be shocked anyway right? And now I'm second guessing everything about them, I've shared holidays and stuff with them and I thought we were getting closer...apparently not. So now my feelings are kind of hurt and I'm worried they won't support our marriage or even show up to the wedding. I have this nagging feeling that I'm not good enough. Did anyone else have an issue like this and how did you deal with it?

Dont let thier recation or lack there of upset you. They either a, will come around eventually or b, they wont. Yes if they dont that is a sad thing but you could try talking to them. Ask them how they feel or why they have not congraulated you. I would only do that if it is really really upsetting both of you. Other wise you both have so many other people that are happy for you and love you both. They might not agree because of something small. You just have to tell yourself that everything will work out and in the end you are gettting married to the man you love and who loves you back.

Thanks. You are very right. In the end their opinions don't matter. I guess I was wrong to presume everyone would be as happy as we both are!!! They practically raised my Fiance so maybe they were at a loss for words...I always go to the worst possible senario and I really need to stop.lol thanks so much. I was worried I was in a "stop the wedding" kind of situation :)

Is it possible that they already knew? Maybe heard from another family member? Maybe they were hurt they weren't one of the first to know since you say they practically raised your FI.

They never expressed being unhappy with our living arrangement before. And this took place maybe one or two days after the engagement. FI did try to call but no answer. I assumed his dad would have told them to at least call because we have good news but apparently he did not. But they did hear it from us first. Maybe they are just not joyous type people. But to say nothing and they still haven't called to explain why...it just seems, off.

Thank you all though. I really do appreciate it. I've pretty much decided that they either think I'm pregnant OR that we are going to ask them for money, neither of which is true but that's my theory.

I sadly dont think theres always reasons why. When my FI family found out they didnt say a single thing. most akward thing ever. We didnt get a single congrats or more until we announced out wedding date. Until then they just assumed it was a joke.

Wow that is awful. I definitley feel for you. I know I felt akward and I still do. I guess I'll find out how they feel when I send them their invitation then huh? It just struck a cord with me because I was raised that whenever someone tells you "good news" (or news they think is good) you always say congratulations, even if it's something small or something you're not thrilled about...period.

Thats the exact way i feel too. Just remember your marrying the man you love and nothing can change that! Its taken me month to come to terms with being pushed out but its our wedding not theres ive invited them all and i cant spend anymore time over worrying what i did when i know i didnt do anything. Its your wedding not theres! Just relax and have fun planning!! :)

Thank you so much. I am just thankful that I have full support from my family and FI's mother's side. If they want to miss out on a good time that's on them.
