My hair length ends just below my bra. I really like the length of my hair but the ends are really unhealthy and I want a new style. Is there a way I can keep the legnth or maybe cut it just an inch and have it cut into a different style? Any suggestions? I have really fine hair and I'm a red head if this helps. I'm also on the heavier side so any tips would help..? I know I can ask the person doing it but I'd rather get some tips from you lovlies before I go in there sounding like a complete idiot.

Thanks!

Oh and if you'd care to share what your favorite hair cut has been that would be great! My favorite one I got about three years ago and I asked her for a jagged look. It came out great but then when I went back to her the next 5 times over the last three years it has been horrible. She never got the same look on me again.

The person I go to now is fantastic with curly hair.  She half cuts it wet, and then does more texturing after it's dry (and curly.)  Somehow it works, and it's awesome.

I don't have much advice for you, though, sorry.  My hair is SUPER thick, so I always make sure to get layers to lighten it up a little.  I'm not sure how well layers work on thin hair though?

I would go through some pictures (I'm sure Pinterest has a ton too) and get a few ideas that you like.  If you can bring a few options with to your appt, they should be able to help you figure out what'll be best on your hair.

Are you opposed to some longerish side sweepy bangs? Like these:

Or maybe you could just add some layers, but still keep overall length:

My favorite cut is the angled bob, longer in front, shorter in back, with side swept bangs. That cut suits my face very well, but I miss having long hair so I'm letting it grow for now.

I don't have much advice but we're in almost the exact same boat. Except my red comes from a bottle!

I think the last picture that maratea posted is what I will probably go with. I am just really lazy so I haven't had my hair cut in about a year. Last time she cut it just below my shoulders with long layers in the front only. It looked great and grew out well but i want to preserve the length I have until the wedding at least.

I wish I could have side swept bangs but my bangs are really thin and wavy. Last time I asked the lady I go to if she would cut my hair like that she told me it wouldn't look right. Basically because I have a cow lick. Yes, I rock the cow lick :(

Thanks Steph, I didn't even think to look on Pinterest and I'm obsessed with it.

I do too. I just part my hair at the center of the cowlick, do lots of straightening and cussing. When my hair cooperates, it looks great, but most of the time it's a bitch. And I have thin, wavy hair too. I feel your pain.

I think you should take off about 2 inches, because you are saying the ends are really unhealthy. Do you flatiron it daily or colour/bleach it often? If so definately take off the ends, sometimes after a good cut it revamps the whole look and you feel better.

If you have super fine hair, I wouldn't layer it at the back at all. Maybe a few layers around the face instead of bangs. When you start layering the ends look thinner and scraggly. Not cool.

Also definately talk to the stylist. I'm a hairdresser and I always have consultations with my clients, even if they have been regulars for years. hope that helps!

Definitely take off more than 1 inch. WIth hair that long you'll probably have more slplit ends and other damage. I have super fine hair (but a crap load of it) and I have layers put in to add movement. I also use volumizing shampoo and mousse and I find that helps.

Ask your stylist about getting a protien treatement as well. I get one done when I have my hair cut and it really helps minimize future damage and repair the hair.

I am also one who suffers from thin hair.  I have very fine strands, but I have a lot of them and my stylist cuts my ends with a rasor instead of sissors.  This gives the ends a little fluff and makes it easier to get volume.  (it's what I don't naturally have so it's what I of course want).

This helped so much! I usually go for the layers in the back because it's the only long hair style i've heard of. I'm so glad you've posted on this. thank you! I do flat iron it or blow dry it daily.

No problem, hope you love your new haircut! There are always options to spice things up, without a huge change or a large amount of length off. :) Enjoy!
