Just wondered who's thinking of having their nails done in a color rather than having a french manicure or something more natural done? I always wear nail polish, and always have some bright color on my nails - it's just what I love and what I'm used to. I was thinking about doing a red, but someone said it would be "loud" in the photos. My colors are black, red, and white, so I'm sure a natural color wouldn't look bad, I just always like my nails to pop! I will definitely make my toes a bright color!

What are you all doing with your nails? Anyone have bright colors or have any input regarding this? Does it really look better with a french manicure or light color?

You shouldn't get a french manicure if you'd only be doing it because someone else said so.

Why don't you look for pictures where the brides have bright red nails and see what you think?  Depending on the style of your dress, etc. it can be very glamourous.  Especially if you match it to your lip color.

You should do whatever you like. Go to google and do some image searches. I am also deciding between a french manicure and blue nails. You could always combine the two....

I wore dark purple because I wanted something fun and I wanted dark.  I love dark nails.  I think you should for sure do it, especially if it's your personality and you are always rocking a colour!

Ok, I am not personally a fan of French/American (like French, except softer white) manicures at all, so this is biased. Most pics I've seen of brides with red or coral nails look really really pretty, so I like that. But, overall, I say do what you like and what you look pretty with. My big problem with the French manicure is that it can look really cheap or tacky if you don't have a nail technician who is willing to really take the time to do it well. If you do choose to go with that, have a friend make a recommendation and try it out at least once before the wedding so you get an idea of it.

I just did a trial run with a shellac mani and the color is a beautiful blush/ballet pink. Very neutral and natural looking, with just a little shimmer.

Unless you get a nail tech who really knows what they are doing and does a careful job, most French manis look really cheap and shitty.

THIS. I do NOT like French at all, I think it's weird-looking (I realize I am in the minority). I think do what is normal for YOU and makes YOU comfortable. If you're unsure, then paint your nails and jump in your dress! Take in account your flowers as well. But I would never think twice about seeing bright nails on a bride.

I'm leaning towards blue shellac over the French mani. My toes will def be blue!

My brother had a very traditional wedding, but his wife did blue toes for her 'something blue' and it was really sweet! I liked it, and it was unexpected for her because she is VERY traditional and conservative.

I'm doing a blush shellac manicure!

I'm not a "nail" girl so this is a good compromise.

I don't really like the look of the plastic french manicure nails. I think that it can be cute on natural nails, but I hate the super square look of French manicure acyrllics. It looks cheap to me. But I that is just my personal preference. I did my own nails and just used a very light, soft pink. I liked the way it looked in photos because it didn't detract from my ring, flowers, or dress.

I think that you should do the look that you like best. Like pp said, google up pics of red nails and compare it to softer colors. Go with what your personality is and the feel of your wedding.

You HAVE to go with what's "you"!!!   :)

If you wear a color on your nails, it will not look bad. There are a lof of people that think that nails have to be neutral or a french manicure because it's more "bridal", but this is 2012, you can definitely break "tradition". Wear what's "you'.

You could always go with red tips to keep with the "tradition" and still have the color pop you love.

I completely agree with some of the other posters here. If you're doing a black white and red theme, then obviously red would look GREAT! I would make sure your bouquet isn't all red though. I have a friend/manager at my job that just did a mani, but with a layer of soft pink - almost coral. It looks great! Much MUCH better than a squared off boring French mani. I get tired of seeing women wearing this style all the time. To me, it reminds me of something a teenager would wear, because it isn't classy anymore and they don't know what to pick. But, this is just me. I think rounded off nails look lovely - whereas with the squared off style is easy to tell it's fake fake fake.

Just choose a couple of styles ahead of time to see what you love and go from there. For the most part, your guests won't pay any attention to your nails one way or the other. It's just to make you feel pretty and happy on your special day :)

I don't usually wear nail polish, I'm also going to do a very pale pink that's almost just going to look like a clear coat, I think it looks more natural than a French manicure and my nails will look nice but it will look like "me."

Go with what's more "you." So rock that red nail polish! I can't think of any picture/ pose where someone's nail color would immediately draw my eyes, even the "hand-on-hand" picture. Our colors are plum with white and lilac. I found a beautiful dark plum nail polish that I plan to use.

Great topic - something I'm wrestling with right now too. I pretty much always have my natural nails painted a fun, bright color. I keep my nails pretty short, so I don't think it will look gaudy if I do a bright color for the wedding. I really wanted to do a fuschia to match my wedding colors, I'm just not sure how it will look with my dress, which is ivory. @Margo - great idea about trying several colors on with the dress. Maybe I'll try some brights on one hand, and something more neutral/blush on the other.

I was actually looking for information on this very topic and stumbled upon this post.  I can't find any pictures of brides with red nailpolish on google!  I'm thinking of doing red shellac instead of a french manicure.  Can anyone point me to a good picture?

I've seen the blue...
