Generally, if you're just talking about yourself, you should allow 1.5 hours for both hair and makeup (not including travel). I would allow 20-30 minutes to dress, and put on your jewelry, accessories, and headpiece. (20 would probably be enough time, 30 would be padding it a bit). You also need to plan to have a bite to eat before you start getting ready. To plan your timeline, remember to start with the time you have to be READY (not the ceremony time), then back up from there. My biggest piece of advice would be to plan your timeline--then back it up 30 minutes. I really wish I had done that. It would have been perfect, but instead I was a little rushed at the end and would have loved just a little more time. You should always plan for a little more than you think you will need.
Ditto working backwards on the timeline. Ceremony is at 630pm. We are doing everything on site: pre-ceremony wedding party photos, hair, makeup. So I checked with each vendor on the time they need/when they want to be finished by.The photog wants to start at 4pm to giving herself some padding. The hair takes less than an hour. The makeup takes 45 minutes-1 hour. She also needs about 30 minutes on each bridesmaid. She doesn't want to do my makeup first or last. She wants me in the middle and wants to be fully finished by 3pm so I'm not rushed for the photos at 4pm.So working backwards, I ended up with this:630pm: ceremony400pm-600pm: photos300pm-4pm: dress and relax230pm-300pm: bridesmaid #3 makeup200pm-230pm: bridesmaid #2 makeup200pm-300pm: bride's hair100pm-200pm: bride's makeup1230pm-100pm: bridesmaid #1 makeup
I suggest you look at some hairstyles that you like. Magazines, The Knot and Pinterest have some good ideas. If you have the money then I suggest you have someone do your hair for you. It's your big day and you deserve it!!!!!
I am a September 29th bride too!! Congrats!!
