My Fair Wedding vent!

This lady wants a country western wedding and he is having a fit!! I thought she had great stuff, except her dress (didn't fit right at all!) and her boots (weren't my style and I thought they were super ugly. They had painted flowers on them.... yuck).

Being from Montana, I have seen some very redneck (not in a good way) weddings and hers was not. I am kind of upset that he is going to completely ruin it. I am actually going to show this episode to my brother and his girlfriend for their future wedding. :)

I'm not into the super fancy weddings, but I don't bash them. It is just irritating me!

Anyone else hate when people bash styles just because it isn't usual for them or not their taste?

This is a re-run and if you watch the whole thing you'll see how beautiful it is and how happy she is. She's a blonde in Texas right?

These people are chosen for the show and know what they're getting into. David is amazing and I'd be happy with whatever he gave me

I don't like when people do that either. I would love to hear what he would say about my wedding. hahaha.
David just bugs me- yet I watch his show.

I completely understand what your saying, Doeie. I was watching an episode the other day because there wasn't anything else on and FI was like who does he think he is. He's supposed to work off their ideas, not trash them. Whether or not he "lets" her wear her cowboy boots is ridiculous. No one should be that dictated too on their wedding day.

Really?! I thought it wasn't that bad. She did need some help though.

Man, some of the weddings he has helped with were horrible in the beginning. I think the worst one was the diva/mardi gras/feather boa one. Eek! haha
I have only seen season 3.

The country wedding I am taking about is season 3 episode 7 if any one wants to check it out :)

I just don't get why people have such a problem with him. I've never seen opinions like some about him til this board. I think he's an amazing event planner and seems very down to earth. I would love to go to an event he's at. I know he's at a Tanger Outlet Center coming up soon but it's nowhere near me

Tacky in terms of decoration is all in the eye of the beholder for the most part.  I used to watch his show and after a while he really started to grate on me and it bothers me how rude he can be to the brides and that he literally changes everything.  I get that they know they're getting into the show but that doesn't mean I think he needs to change absolutely everything right down to their dress and shoes.

I agree! I have actually seen that episode. I also feel like he tries to change the bride to fit his vision as well. I thought her cowboy boots were cute and totally her. If those boots made her feel special and unique on her day then that's what matters. He also tells her not to be seen with a beer on her wedding day. If that is what she likes to drink then she have one.

I've seen so many episodes and I have yet to think he's been rude to anyone. A lot of the brides I've seen aren't in love with their dresses and/or the fit is horrible. He hasn't been changing dresses as much lately

He said beer bottle. He doesn't want his brides to look trashy which I would totally think a bride is trashy if she was walking around drinking out of a beer can/bottle. Use a glass.

I think some of us were just pointing out that he can be really harsh sometimes and it's not necessary.  I also don't think there's any reason to change someone's shoes for crying out loud.  My guess is he would try to make me change my shoes from the Toms that I have into heels that I wouldn't be able to walk in.

@Kelsey I mean this board like people's comments about him the other day. I've never seen people use those types of words to describe him. And I don't think you should harshly judge him without knowing him or anyone yourself. I think how nice he acts is genuine and until I meet him in person and proved otherwise I'll continue to think that way and not bash him

I hardly think the words used on this forum in either discussion have been "harsh" or "belittling."  Some people don't like the guy, some people think his weddings are tacky, some people think he comes across as arrogant and attention-grabby.  It's not like he's being accused of despicable or even criminal acts, and nobody's made fun of his personal life.  People are allowed to make judgments of others based on their experiences with that person, even if their experiences have just been through a reality show.

FWIW, I don't hate the guy.  I find some of his weddings crazy and over the top; I think he got much better going into the second season of the show as far as listening to his brides.  People who hire him to do their weddings know (or should know) what they are getting for their money.  If that's what they want, so be it.

Are you saying you don't have any opinions about anyone you watch on TV because you don't know them personally?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having an opinion about this guy and his TV show.   Doeie doesn't need to know him before she's allowed to be annoyed with how he belittled a girl over her cowboy boots or whatever else she was planning to have at her wedding.

I think his style is ostentatious. I don't need to know the man personally to have an opinion on his style, just as I don't have to know Jonathan Adler personally to adore his style.

You're getting up in arms over one comment, by one person, over someone you don't know either?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, regardless of how harsh they may be.  Nobody here has belittled or bullied you for liking his style, just expressed their own preferences.

One person called him a name for not showing up at a destination wedding he was supposed to be coordinating in the thread I started last weekend.

Another has a friend who works for him who says he's a prick.  So, in that case, I guess it's justified since the person knows him personally.

    http://forums.theknot.com/Sites/theknot/Pages/Main.aspx/wedding-club-boards_june-2012-weddings_david-tutera-sued-couples

Anyway, we can disagree on this just as people disagree on Randy or Lori or Monte on SYTTD.  Some love them, some hate them.  That's what happens with TV personalities.

I think that a lot of David's weddings lack in the class department; they're way over the top and practically a theatrical event.

I called him an arrogant prick. I have not worked on that show, but many of my friends have and I trust their assessment. And btw, most of the things he "designs" for the show are determined by what companies will give free stuff to appear on the show. And the producers make most of the decisions about what will be changed. Jane says in her casting tape that she absolutely loves her shoes and would rather die than wear something else? Guess what, her shoes are getting changed. How he acts with his private clients? No idea he could be sweet as pie. But he treats the tv crew pretty poorly.

You're saying that these girls are wrong for having opinions of him based off of what they've seen on his television show.  Yet you think a bride is trashy if her beer is in a bottle.

You're judging someone by how they drink their beer, like they are judging someone off of what they've seen on tv.
