First of all, I am very grateful for the help, financially and otherwise, that FFIL and FMIL have given us. That being said...
FFIL DRIVES ME UP THE #&*@ WALL!
We've been pretty laid back with everything so far. We haven't asked hardly anything of our WP or parents. We had to fight FFIL to go get fitted for a tux for months. He didn't understand why he couldn't just wear his "nice clothes". FYI, that's his dark jeans and his black tee, his words, not my own interpretation. Because it's a wedding! That we are paying a lot of money for! We don't want to look at pictures of everyone else in gowns and tuxes and him in jeans and a tee. Then he finally goes and wants to know why he can't wear a camo tie and pocket square.... **breathe in, breathe out**
They are hosting the RD. Rewind a couple months ago, they asked where we would like to have it, and the two places we had in mind wouldn't reserve the room for us on a friday night. No biggie. FFIL wants to go to a BBQ place to try because they have a room they would let us use. I don't eat bbq, but I figure, no worries, they have burgers too, I'll be all good. We're halfway through the meal and he says hey, what about a seafood place! That'd be great, but I don't eat seafood, and neither do quite a few of our bridal party members. We've been together almost 8 years and no lie, FI has to tell him on a weekly basis that I don't like seafood. Anyways, god bless FBIL, he goes, well dad, that would be great but she doesn't EAT SEAFOOD! hahaha. He saved me from having to say it, again. ok. so.
We hold off awhile on trying to find a place. They call us one night to say they found a place. A steak house down the road from us. It's actually really nice. and pricey. But they wanted to have it there, because he knows the owner and the owner "will give us a great deal."
Girls, I am a picky eater, I know that, and because I know that I try to go with the flow as much as possible. So last week they came over for pizza to put together a list of guests and pick out three entree's. We have 14 people in our wedding party alone, add in spouses/SO's and the list is going to climb. We're at 35 total, which isn't bad. FFIL is questioning why the ring bearer and his mom are invited. Um, because he's in the WP. Then why my sister's SO is invited. and on and on.
Last night we met with the owner, 45 minutes after our scheduled appt. time. (I'm thinking this is a great sign.) The owner shows up finally, and starts off with how many people. They look at me so I say 35. "oh, ok. That'll be tight." FFIL: "35!?! Can't we cut that down at all?" No! we can't!! Who would you like to cut? Your mom?!? **breathe in, breathe out** Maybe, instead of trying to give the business to your friend at all costs, you should have considered how many people we had and then looked for a place, not the other way around! Then, we give him the meal choices: prime rib (FFIL's choice), Chicken Cordon Bleu (FMIL's choice), Chicken Alfredo (our choice). FFIL says: Chicken Alfredo??? I was thinking a seafood pasta.
Really!?!! I won't eat prime rib or chicken cordon bleu, that was our choice to make, that's what we chose. I know a good portion of the list that won't eat either of those choices or seafood. and we have kids going too. To FI and I, it's the logical choice. The entire time, my FI is letting me argue it out with his dad. So I kicked him under the table and gave him a look and he finally stepped in.
We finally get through the meeting, go have dinner. Get home and are watching TV with the dogs. It's 10:30. FI's phone rings. He lets it go to vm. My phone rings. I answer it and it's FFIL just to let us know that they can pipe music into the room. Then he says, k gotta go, and hangs up.
I am very grateful for the help, financially and otherwise, that FFIL and FMIL have given us.
