FI has about a dozen family members/friends that don't get along. We had to make "special" table accomodations for these idiots. This isn't like, "mom and dad are divorced and it was messy." His parents are still together. This is, "Aunt C and Aunt A fought about something 20+ years ago...no one remembers why but they hate eachother. Their kids didn't see one another for years."
Then he has, "I can't sit with J because she couldn't afford to be my bridesmaid in my disgustingly expensive destination wedding and I hate her for it, even after 10 years of friendship."
FFS people, grow up...anyone else got these issues?

I thankfully do not to a huge degree, but FMIL and my future stepmother in law don't get along along with my FFIL and my future father in law. But honestly I don't really care at this point. They have to participate in their son's wedding and if ANYONE is pissy (family or not), they don't get to come. :-) That's my new wedding rule.

YES! My one aunt isn't coming to the reception because of the fight 20+ years ago with my other aunt. She is coming to the ceremony but made some lame excuse of why she can't go to the reception. There are a few of my Mom's friends that don't want to sit with each other because they don't like each other - it really is so stupid. I feel your pain! :(

we have that in my family too, except none of those people are coming to the wedding. my issue is my aunts on my mom's side who dont talk to anyone but themselves. We're sticking them with my dad's best friend from high school and his family. it's actually funny. My aunt was my mom's MOH and caught the bouquet. my dad's best friend was his BM and caught the garter. you know how it goes from there!

:( Im sorry. FMIL and F-step-MIL hatehate each other. And refuse to be anywhere near each other at the wedding. This makes this tough/sad for FI because he is actually more close with his dad then mom, but his mom doesn't really realize. So, for example, she's seating us with her at the RD and making his dad and step mom sit somewhere else...so AND I QUOTE "that woman doesn't get any of the glory."
Kicking myself for not asking her who in the hell she is expecting to have "glory" on our wedding weekend other than us?!

We don't have any feuds. But FI's cousin got wasted at a wedding a few years ago and slept w/ her step-cousin. It's a big secret from the parents, but some of us know. I put them at a table together though, only b/c I'm an assshole :)

This is why all wedding venues should include boxing rings in the center of the room. You put a table in the ring, and seat all the 'difficult' people there. Then everybody else has a great view for the shenanigans that ensue. Or the troublemakers are on their best behavior. Win-Win.

We don't really have any feuds. But nobody wants to sit next to one of FI's brothers... just cuz he kind of sucks. We finally relented on a request to invite someone else to the wedding, on condition she sits next to the brother!!

Let me tell ya, that was a crazy night! Cousin showed up at hotel room w/ only a towel. Couldn't remember where her dress was. I felt bad, but she's an adult and abused the open bar profusely. I may regret seating them together, but the thought of more stories is too much to pass up!

We definitely have this going on in FIs family. My family has it, but the more distant relatives, who weren't invited. And yeah, like Zoe, there are people in my family who don't exactly get along, but they can behave like mature adults and sit together for ONE HOUR and eat dinner.

My family...we don't have feuds...we have wars. A couple of years ago my adult sisters got in a huge fight during Christmas. I don't mean a quarrel either. There was blood and a fallen down tree after they were done. They tried to make up since, but it never worked out. Besides that, I have although family that does not speak to each other because of divorces, like my mom won't talk to any of my aunts plus more (both my parents were married multiple times). The cream of the pie is I have a brother who is gay and another who is transgender while certain other family are complete homophobes. Sucks to the youngest of a large crazy family
For this reason we were going to have a small wedding and make a road trip afterwards visiting my crazy family. It won't work out though because Fiance is from a large conservative family. His parents were farms and he have something like 25 living aunts and uncles. Of course they have their issues but nothing that will make a wedding unpleasant. Makes it worse is that his culture is notorious of huge weddings. Since we are going to live in his home town, it there is going to be some tough choices.
