Hey Ladies,

I am new to the board just confirmed today that we want to deffinately do a destination wedding. Our story is long and interesting but we meet in Mexico I am a Canadian and he is from Netherlands. We currently live here in the Netherlands with our 1 year old little girl. And are looking to get married in Jamaica in May of next year.

I am excited to get some tips and information from you ladies and we are in the very start of our planning process and havent even officailly booked a hotel yet we are still considering a few different options.

We decied to do a destination wedding due to the fact that we are from different countries to start and we thought it was only fair to make everyone travel instead of one family or the other.

I am apart of a Janurary 2011 babies board and love being able to chat with those ladies about our babies so I am looking for something similar for my wedding!!

Hi and welcome!! I am a Jamaica bride getting married 2/23/13. After a lots of research FI and I decided Negril was the place to go and couldn't be more thrilled! This week we put a deposit down on Sandals Negril which is where we will be spending our honeymoon and having our wedding! I am still looking at my options re the reception and playing around with a few ideas...it's great that you are set on the country makes your research a bit more condensed than mine was lol! I would be happy to help in any way I can! Congratulations!!!

Thanks Ladies for the warm welcome!! I am so excited this board is so active!! I am very excited that we have come to the agreement to get married with a destination wedding. I really feel like its the best way to go. FI culture doesnt normally do this so we are bit concerned about how his family is going to react with this. But my therory is you cant please everyone all the time. And one family must make a sacrifce so why not both... (I hope thats not a bad way of thinking)

I havent done much planning other then deciding on a destination wedding and the country. I am flying home for a cousins wedding (Ontario) in June so my mom and girls will go dress shopping then. I dont have any family in the Netherlands so really not something I want to do here by myself and I dont want FI to see my dress before the wedding. So I am hoping to get it in Ontario and have my family travel with it.

We are going to be going for 2 weeks as its about a 14 hour flight from Holland and normaly Europeans go for a longer holiday to make it worth their while. We are hoping to get a hotel chain with more the one hotel on the same compound. Maybe stay at one resort for the week of the wedding and move over for the second week for our Honeymoon. My family will stay and take care of our little girl for the week. (we wont be far and probably will stop in and see her and the family) but nice to know we get a abit of a actual Honeymoon without having to plan that later.

We did think Mexico as thats where we meet however the Bloodwork thing you have to do when you get there is kinda turning us off of that country. Seems weird to me.

I am really interested in Iberostar Grand Hotel Rose Hall. As it fits what I meantioned about being able to change hotels. However I really do love Rius and was considering the RIU Ochos Rios. But none of this is really set in stone and I am still very much open to anything. We are hoping to decide sooner rather then later to give ample notice to family so that most people have a good shot of coming.

Same things about Mexico for me!! Someone said I could always get married legally at home (the courthouse) and have a symbolic ceremony in Mexico, but I really wanted to be legally married on the date we chose! and Jamaica kept calling my name! The Riu and Iberostar were in my top 5 choices! I think there is another bride here getting married at the Iberostar as well...sorry for all the exlamation points, but this was a good week wedding wise and i am so excited as well as being excited about another Jamaica bride, lol!!

Hi and welcome!!!!! I am getting married at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites in Jamaica in June!!!!!!!! So that is one of the resorts in the chain of Iberostars and is one step lower then the Grand and allows children! I am beyond thrilled with my choice!
