Take 2!

Are there any situations in which you said the correct/less rocking the boat thing for whatever reason but you really wanted to say something else?  Here's your chance so spill it!

This is strictly a hypothetical situation that hasn't happened yet but it should be happening shortly.  I think it would be cool if our family wore jewel toned colors or went with black or gold (our colors) and I can just imagine what FMIL will say when she finds the black part out! FMIL:  You think black is a good idea?  Isn't that a little funeralish? Me: Like I said, you can wear what you want but you asked for my opinion. Me (Take 2): Well it kind of is a funeral to you!

Yes, many times.  I probably would have gotten kicked out of the house, fired, physically assaulted or no longer engaged.  Right now though, off the top of my head, I can't think of a specific one.

Ha, it was kind of snarky.  And totally cathartic.

When I saw my FMIL's dress for the wedding.  It's purple.  My colors are champagne and ivory.  She said she looks too washed out in champagne/beige/gold.  Ok, but don't look at me when you see the wedding photos.

My MIL wanted to wear red to the wedding.  My mom said, "At least she's not going to wear black."  However, after Bill told her that my MOH was wearing red, she decided on a nice beigy-gold color.

Purple is FMIL's favorite color so I sort of had to laugh about it.  Her mother's dress is also purple, but it's a deep plum color which is actually very pretty.

MIL and her mother (grandmother to Bill and his brother and sister) wore the same dress to SIL's wedding.  I still can't believe that she didn't call.

Oh I have another one.  My MOH (my sister) brought over a short cocktail dress she wants to change into at the reception.  It's off-white.  She did ask me if it's Ok.  I wanted to tell her I thought it was a little much but I didn't want to look like a diva.  No one's going to be looking at her anyway.

I still can't believe that she didn't call. Are you referring to the birthday card and MIL not calling?  FMIL likes to sit and stew on things a bit.  Then it's like "Watch OUT!!"

I can't believe that she didn't call her own mother to find out what she was wearing to the wedding.  It almost happened with FIL's sister at the same wedding.  Thankfully, she did call.  Can you imagine a wedding with three women wearing the same dress?

Hee, my mom went straight to FMIL's dress at Terry Costa (but in CHAMPAGNE!)  I to tell her, sadly, no.  But the dress she ended up with is much prettier.

My colors are champagne and ivoryWhat is it with MOG's and purple?  My colors are black, silver, and claret red and my FMIL sent me a link to a dress she is going to order and she wanted Amathyst.....I was like, well, I think the amathyst is too purple....why don't you go with silver or black or I don't know...CLARET???  If she gets purple, she is going to totally stand out!

All I thought of when I heard MIL wanted to wear red to the wedding was the "Whose Wedding is it Anyways" where the MIL wore red and made the day all about her.

Hee, Julie I remember that episode!  Yeah, Lindsay, I thought the same thing.  She is totally going to stand out in the formal portraits.  And my sister wants to get a really dark tan (again, to compensate for the champagne color) and I'm afraid she'll look ridiculous.  A dark fake tan in November is going to look weird.

Yes, that person would be my SIL.  First she was going to wear a white dress and I said no to that, so this is what she came up with next.  Whatever, I'm not the stupid looking one in the picture.  Everyone else got the memo that our colors were silver and blue and dressed accordingly.

Maybe it's just me...but is it that important for the MOB/MOG to color coordinate with the wedding colors?
  • edited December 2011
I don't think it has to really coordinate with the wedding colors, but I don't think it should be some random intense color either.  I think it should be complementary to the overall color scheme.

My mom wore a platinum/gun metal gray color for her dress, and my MIL wore dark blue, and I thought they both looked good with our wedding colors.  I never asked either one to wear a specific color, but my MIL did ask about the wedding colors and wanted to make sure she wore something that didn't clash, and I appreciated that.  I don't think you should require them to wear a certain color, but I think they should at least understand if you ask them to wear something that will look nice with the wedding colors.

I just think there are much bigger battles than the color of the dress of a MOB/MOG. At least it's not florescent orange.

Well the topic of this thread is, was there ever a situation where you wanted to say something else.  And I really wanted to tell my FMIL not to wear that dress because I think she'll stick out like a sore thumb.  Everyone else in my wedding party is wearing champagne.  But I didn't.
