i think it probably depends on where you live, are you able to hold off decideing the date until this autumn?  then you can judge what time will be best for you.  Personally i would probably aim for mid october (2/3 week).

I agree with PP. It really depends on where you live. Where I live September is still warm and green. Foliage starts in October. Just ask around and see what people in your area say. You may want to see if you have a local board you could post on to ask other brides in your area.

I am October 16th and I was worried about the same...

My venue is in a hotel that is in the mountains and my ballroom is all 360 panoramic windows.... It will be my dream if all the leaves in the mountains were oranges, reds, and yellows...aaaahhhh....

Peak time for colors is Oct 14th!!!! :)

September may not be as much color as mid fall, but there should still be something.

My wedding is Sept 29 and we're doing a fall-themed wedding. There won't be natural fall foliage yet but here the air will be crisp and have that fall feel to it!

I agree with PPs, it all depends on where you are. I am getting married next Sept up in northern Ontario, colours up there change earlier as it gets cold earlier...

It depends on where you live. In southern Minnesota, peak foliage is first weekend in October, so that's what we picked! Plus 10.01.11 is such a nice, neat number.

I don't it's too early, we are getting married north central WI our flower colors are going to be fall.  Even decided to have a few pumpkins around, the leaves are just turning colors here and the wedding will be exactly one year from now.

I'm actually getting married September 23rd 2012 in Chicago. This year (2011) on 9/23 there were NO fall colors yet. It might be a little too early for us in the region :/ Fingers crossed for you though! :D

It's not deep the in heart of fall, I think more like late Indian summer, or early fall.  Here in northern NJ we usually have just a few early turning trees in their colors, but lots of bue skies and chrysanthemums blooming.
