We are getting married in April 2012, and I would really like to have a butterfly release after the ceremony, but here in Wyoming its too cold to have a butterfly release in April. (Its recomended to do a butterfly release in temps over 70  degrees F but the average high temp in Wyoming during April is only 51 degrees F) So I've been thinking of making live butterfly centerpieces instead, but I have no ideas at all. Does anyone have any ideas what we could do?Laughing

This is a lousy idea no matter how many boards you post it on.
fiancee = vag ** fiance = peen ** Babies shouldn't be born with jobs ** **They're called first loves for a reason -- more are supposed to come after. You don't get a medal for marrying your prom date. Unless you're imoan. Then you get an all-expenses paid cruise to the Mediterranean and you get to meet Jared Padalecki on the flight over while wearing your jammies. But still no medal. **

I wouldn't, it almost seems cruel. If you love butterflies, use them in your centerpieces somehow, but not live ones...

Let me guess...are you going to alternate with live fish in bowls?

This is animal cruelty, no matter how you look at it. Give up the idea and look for something more humane...like flowers & candles.

I like the idea of the live butterfly release, but don't think it will work well for centerpieces.  Too much of a risk of children knocking them over, and it would be a little odd to have them on every table.

What about putting together one of the habitats that the release people have with flowers, branches, etc and putting it on your registration table?  Or if you put a picture of a butterfly on your favors, you could put it on the favor table?  One would make a better impact IMO than one on every table.

Not in that weather!
The last thing you want is for you guest to be eating at tables where their centerpieces are filled with dead insects.
Just dont.

I have seen at the local craft stores mason jars with "Butterflies" in them. They are pretty peices of paper attached to a wire and they fly around and flap their wings. It looks very realistic and they are not all that expensive. I would use that as an alternative to live butterflies

Please don't do this.

Would you like to be placed into a glass container with no air for about 4-6 hours?

You could always get married in California, where its warmer.  Oh wait, we have laws against butterfly cruelty.

Please don't do that...I love all animals and I couldn't even imagine what it would be like to watch those poor butterflies die a slow, painful death while having dinner.

FYI: my friend tried this with beta fish and they didn't make it either. They were all floating by the cake cutting and the wait staff had to get rid of them. Again, seriously, don't do that.

I love butterflies and my wedding planner suggested the same idea to me....I'm also having an April wedding but I believe its a bit warmer in Ohio. We plan to put flowers in the centerpieces and create a mesh top so they can breathe. If its to cold to release them, I plan to create a habitat on standby for them until weather permits to release them. This is a great solution I believe. :)
