The rule of thumb is 1/4 lb per person. You also don't want to have too many choices. Typically 5-8 types of candy is good for your wedding size. I had 150 guests come to the reception. I did all white and cream candies/sweets to fit in with my wedding so I ordered the following from groovycandies.com
white m&ms
vanilla saltwater taffy
white jordan almonds
white choc covered pretzels
yogurt covered raisins

I also added white choc-covered cake pops and white-choc covered oreo pops to mine. I had a quart-sized bag of m&ms left after it was all said and done BUT I also had friends raiding the sweets buffet at the end of the reception, filling 2-3 bags of candy to take home with them so I feel like I ordered the perfect amount.
