I have looked at inspiration boards and other sites and blogs that help with color, but I'm still having troule. My favorite color is yellow. His is blue. I would really like to do both colors but I feel yellow with dark shades of blue looks like school colors and light shades of blue is too vintage. Do I just nix one of the colors and do something different like yellow and cream or blue with grey and black? It is a simple outdoor wedding so I want to show that with the colors. Also, I want my wedding photos to be kind of timeless so that when myself or others look at them in the future it isn't a joke (like "man look at that 80's wedding" that you hear all the time).

There's several things you could do with similar colors such as sunflower yellow with a purpley-blue such as this

We're doing a cornflower blue with light yellow for our wedding colours (in may). I think blue and yellow look nice together, though I prefer the yellow to be pale since it's such a bright colour! Good luck deciding :)

Thanks! I ended up finding two colors I like and when I showed him he really liked them too. I'm so glad we could find a blue and yellow that fit both of us. I appreciate your comments as they helped me decide. I think we are doing a pool/aquamarine blue with a daisy/sunflower yellow (one will be an accent color so it isn't too much light and bright all at once).

I had a similar problem, my fiancé was set on Kelly green but I was leaning more toward a French blue. I asked around a lot and 100% said "it's your wedding, do whatever colors you want!" so we opted for cornflower blue, stark white with accents of Kelly green. It's looking gorgeous so far and I must say yellow and blue look great together, especially in summer. Something like a pale yellow with a dark blue or a sunflower yellow with a periwinkle blue would be really pretty. You should start looking at things in those different shades. Some color combos can seem terrible in theory or on paper, but when you see the actual objects together it can work nicely. I like Tiffany blue personally and that goes really well with yellow.
