I seem to be that one bride that is getting married in the winter and not having a winter themed wedding.  No snowflakes, Christmas, icicles, NYE, Valentines day.  None of it.  My wedding is in the end of January 2013, the nearest holiday is MLK Day, not exactly a popular holiday theme.  Why does the world (or at least the internet) assume that if the wedding is in the winter, the theme must be winter?  I don't like the popular color schemes for winter weddings, so no blue and silver or red and green.  Am I really that much of an oddball?  I mean, I know I'm weird, so is my FI, it makes life more interesting and fun, but I didn't think I was that odd.

Is anyone else out there doing a non-wintery winter wedding?

We are. :) We're marrying in Feb and decided on a more Asian Sunset theme.

EDIT: We were bouncing around dates and such so there was no way ours was a season based theme. We just chose something that meant something to both of us and something that we both really loved. :)

I admit, I'm a Christmas winter bride.  I guess I'm curious about why the internet assumes you are having a winter theme?  Do you mean people on the internet when you tell them your date?  You can do whatever you want, whenever you want!  I just picked winter BECAUSE I wanted Christmas, but I've seen Christmas in July themed weddings!

I feel your frustration. We are getting married in February and have felt the same way at times. We've decided to go with silver, red, and yellow as our colors. (We were initially going with yellow and grey, but my dress isn't white so we had to add another color.)
Just have fun with it! We're pretty much ignoring the season and letting our creativity go wild.
Good luck!

I mean that the internet assumes winter wedding equals wintery theme because if you google "winter wedding ideas" everything is thematic.  People who know me know that I won't be having a Christmasy wedding (it would be odd at a synagogue), and that our wedding will be unique and fun.  I'm just trying to find ideas and getting frustrated by it.  I'm really early in the planning process and thought the internet would be the best place to go for ideas.  I didn't count on a season being a theme.  I guess I should have.  Anyway, I just need to pick my colors and from there I'm just gonna have a blast putting it all together.

You don't necessarily have to have a theme. We started with a color we both liked and went from there. It just happened my fi had more ideas on themes he wanted while I had colors. Maybe ask your fi his opinion, you might be suprised (I know I was)

My fi is not going to be all that helpful with ideas.  He tends to say he doesn't like/want something, and then a few months later ask why we hadn't considered doing it.  Like our venue.  He said he didn't want to get married in the synagogue, and then a few months later asked why I was looking at venues when we could just get married at the synagogue.  I love him, but can't count on him for planning ideas.  He just really doesn't care what the place looks like as long as it's not ugly.  He wants me to narrow things down to just a few choices and then ask him to pick from them.
This whole thread just started because I was having a bad morning and felt like no one was being helpful.

Thanks everyone.

I would definitely not google winter wedding ideas.  I think that implies you WANT winter incorporated as your theme.  I agree with the previous poster.  Look around at pictures until you either find a theme or color you want, or some small thing that you just look at and you know want to have in your wedding.  It all seems to fall in place after that.  Before we moved to December my theme was going to be vintage- lace and pearls.  We were going to have clusters of candleholders wrapped in lace and pearls scattered around as centerpieces.

And my FI was NOT helpful.  I had 8 different color themes I originally picked out and put together pictures of so he could help pick.  He said no to all of them....  Just accept now that many guys don't want to be involved as much as you want them to, and most can never see how awesome your ideas are when it comes to your wedding :)  Ask him what he REALLY wants to be involved in, and don't ask his opinion on anything unless you REALLY want it.

I think if you Google "winter wedding ideas" you're going to get winter wedding ideas, which tend to be snowflakes and Christmas-y things. If that's not what you're looking for, you may want to go just browse wedding ideas in general and find inspiration from all weddings, rather than specifically winter weddings. I was originally planning for April and we moved our wedding up to January, and the few ideas I had by that point transferred seamlessly. I'd choose a few colors you like and search for those for inspiration. Something like a deep purple would make a beautiful winter wedding color, but wouldn't be traditional winter wedding-y, know what I mean?

It's your day (and your fiance's), do whatever makes you both happy.  Have whatever theme calls you.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN! I am getting married January 7 and literally everyone is like ohh leave the church Christmas decorations or Ohh do snow or Ohh snowflake this and icy winter that. It's so annoying, and when I'm trying to come up with planning ideas all I get is Christmas and Ice Princess feedback. My colors are black & white with hot pink accent and I don't want a bunch of evergreen trees cluttering the sanctuary. I've declared my theme as "vintage romance" but really the theme is budget. We are just trying to grin & bear it with all the ideas and friendly help people are giving but it is difficult. Good luck to you!

Sounds like me.  We settled on Black, White, and Purple as our colors, with no theme. We just want a fun, unique party that is a mix of traditional and modern.

I hear you- I am actually getting married on New Years Eve- but didn't want to do a tacky NYE party for my wedding! I chose deep/rich colors for my theme- eggplant and burgundy, and have thrown in a few touches- my escort cards are going to be in chanpagne corks and my cake topper is a crystal ball (but i handmade it so it is special to us). But in the end- I just put together a bunch of things that we like, added some cute touches, but kept it simple.
Find something you want to focus on- whether it be your dress, a centerpiece, and everything will start to- sorry for this pun- but snowball into your perfect day!

My wedding was in January, but was not winter themed. (My colors were white, black, and purple, with silver accents.) We actually used a combo of my church's Easter and Advent decorations (white and purple) for our ceremony. If you want, feel free to check out photos in my bio.

Sounds similar to my wedding.  My FI (who is being super helpful since I'm a full time veterinary student) and I choose colors first and then went from there.  We are planning on the wedding being 12-22-12, mostly due to my school schedule.  We are doing a green and chocolate brown (kind of an earthy look and feel) with accents of white.  I'm from NE Ohio and I hate winter, so having a winter wedding wasn't a first choose for me by any means.  Theme wise, we are doing a play off of infinity.  This is something that has a personal meaning to us since we always used to say "I love you, times infinity cubed."  My goal is to stay away from anything that is tradionally associated with winter.
