Hi,

We are cosidering having our wedding on Jan 1st 2011, New Years Day with a Rehearsal Dinner on New Years Eve.  Anyone out there doing the same?  Have you run into any issues? Is booking vedors difficult and are labor costs higher due to the holiday?

Thanks for your help!

I am getting married 01-01-10 and I have had no problem booking vendors. Actually, I feel like it has been easier because in my case most people are not booked up on that day. The only vendor that isn't open that day is the florist but we are picking up the flowers the night before and keeping them in a cool place.

Good luck with your planning.

I am a 1-1-11 bride and the vendors I have already booked have all said that New Year's Day is easier to book than New Year's Eve. It's also a little cheaper than New Year's Eve.

We have decided to do a late lunch rehearsal dinner to accomodate bridal party schedules and restaurant schedules, but so far scheduling things has been super easy.

I am a New Years EVE bride. I have found NOOOO problems with vendors. The DJ was a little difficult, but not a problem.  Im sure that a rehearsal dinner would be fun on NYE.

Good Luck !!!

Its an amazing experience, enjoy it, the time will fly by!

i'm also a 1.1.10 bride and we've had no problems whatsoever. and i agree with pp-it has been easier to book with vendors bc it was a day that was left wide open. though, since 1.1.10 is a friday, i think that had alot to do with it also. 1.1.11 is a saturday (right?), so i would imagine you might run in to a few more issues simply because it is a saturday and the date itself is going to end up being somewhat popular (chances are at least). otherwise, i love our date on new years day!

my sister chose 10.2.10 as her wedding date and i know that she had to book her vendors a couple of months ago and ran in to problems tracking down an available dj because the date because a popular one after she settled on it. i have friends getting married 1 & 2 weeks before her and they haven't booked more than a vendor and have had no problems with availability otherwise. it's just because 10.2.10 has become so popular that my sister ran in to problems.

I was going to get married on 1-1-10 but in the Catholic Church that is a holy day of obligation so our church told us that we couldn't do that.  So you should check with your priest or pastro if you are getting married in a church.

I was worried about the church as well, but some crazy catch makes it ok for us to get married on 1-1-11.  I know our Catholic church was ok, I'm not sure about other denominations.

TTMcGee: What have you found as far as people being available for a NYE wedding?

We're considering one but I'm worried that acceptance rates would be really low because of the date!

I'm also a NYE bride and we had no problem booking vendors either, with the exception of the church. We're catholic and had a hard time finding a church willing to do it on NYE, even though it isn't a holy day. We finally found one though and all our guests are so happy to have something fun to do on NYE. I highly recommend it!

I'm getting married on 1/2/10 - our responses have been lower than expected because of NYE.  Some people always travel around that time and didn't want to change their plans to come to the wedding... even though we gave them ample time (we were engaged for 14 months and had the date picked out really early).  We invited 240 people and are just under 150 for attendance.

My daughter and her fiance have decided on 1-1-11 and we have just started with the planning.  We found a gorgeous venue but it did cost us $1000. more because of NY.  They did state it would be alot more if they wanted a NYE wedding.  Pastor is booked along with a DJ (he charged $300. more.)  I have real concerns about the florist (but could pick up the flowers the day before) BUT my real concern is trying to find a hairdresser willing to get up early that day and do our hair.

I am getting married on 1-1-10 in Wisconsin and found it extremely EASY to book vendors--in most cases we got the cheaper "Friday" rate, despite the fact that it's a holiday.  Our florist is amazing and is taking care of everything the day of.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to book a New Year's Day wedding on a Saturday.

Also, I found that most people were able to travel to the wedding a lot easier because almost everyone is off work on New Year's Day, so it gives them the weekend to travel without having to take off work.

I would never pick another day to get married!  Now let's just hope the weather holds out for us!

well I have been thinking about a new years eve wedding, my question to you is this? are you doing your wedding to where it hit 12 midnight? because that is what i want to do, but are Vendors even open that late. If you don't mind how are you doing yours?

I am getting married on 1/1/10 and the planning process has been great! The only vendor that charged me more for being on a holiday was the reception venue, but he was already such a low price it didnt matter to us. We are actually having our rehearsal dinner on 12/30, 2 days before the wedding because my church is having another wedding on 12/31 so we could not rehearse in there that day. I actually LOVE having the rehearsal/rehearsal dinner 2 days before because I will have the day before to just relax and get any last minute things done. I will get to drink at my rehearsal dinner and not worry about staying up late or anything because I have a whole extra day! Its GREAT! I totally reccomend a New Year's wedding- we have had more guests than expected RSVP yes. I guess the holidays make it easier for most to travel.

Have fun!

Yes, seems that because it is a holiday my venue wants to charge for staffing costs which is an extra few thousand dollars! I'm stumped on what to do. I really love the idea of starting the new year off with your husband and family but not sure if its worth the extra money!

I'm a New Years EVE bride I just got married this past NYE 12-31-09. It was an amazing wedding, I wish I could do it all over again. As far as holiday up-charge  is concerned,  I was fortunate that none of vendors charged us extra.   We did make sure to tip everyone more instead.  Having a NYE rehearsal dinner might cost you a bit more because a lot of rest., at least here in New Haven CT, have pre-set menus at a much higher cost. Also depending on your wedding party finding a baby sitter for NYE was a tricky part.

For all you brides out there thinking of a NYE wedding...DO IT!!!! of the 95 people invited we only had 6 RSVP no...everyone came. Friends and family with kids said it was the best because they hadn't been out for this holiday since they got married. It was a rocking wedding!!! Best date ever!

Just relax, have fun, and go with the flow...this is your day to shine!

Good luck ladies!

I am getting married on 1/1/11!  My fiance and I LOVE the date, but my mother is have a huge problem with it!  She doesn't think that anyone will come!  I think she is crazy!

As for vendors, I have everything lined up!  The hair dresser was the hardest part, but I have a few licensed friends who are going to help - as our wedding gift!

I am to my wits end with my mother though.  In fact, today I am looking into destinations for the day!  I don't think I can handle her antics for the rest of the year!  So, exploring ALL options now!  It will suck to be out of $$$ from the deposits on photographer, reception hall, church and DJ, but I just don't know what to do!

If your family is on board, what a great day - 1/1/11 you and your husband become one!

We just decided on a 1/1/11 date, too!  I had wanted NYE, but it's just too difficult with NYE being on a Friday night because we have a lot of out of town guests.  Now that we're planning for New Year's Day, I'm actually MORE excited!

We're going to do the rehearsal late afternoon/early evening on NYE, do a dinner, and then everyone will head out together to enjoy a "First Night" experience in the town we're getting married in.  (First Night = art galleries and churches host musicians and poets and things and you walk around to enjoy them til midnight when everyone gathers together to countdown!).  Part of everyone's arrival gift baskets will be the buttons needed to get into First Night.  It will be fun to all ring in the new year together!

Then, on New Year's Day we're going to have an evening wedding so everyone can relax in the morning and recover.  I'm a LITTLE worried that everyone will be too pooped to party at our reception, but I'm hoping that the energy will stay high and we'll dance the night away.  We'll see!

I would LOVE to hear more ideas about New Year's weekend weddings, especially in terms of how you host the guests for the weekend, etc.  I'm glad to hear attendance hasn't dropped for everyone.

How early are you all sending out STDs and invitations for New Year's??

I am also getting married on Jan 1 2011 and it has been a breeze finding venders and everything. In fact. I used to work for Dunhill Tuxedo and the winter months are the slowest time in the wedding business. Most people get married in the spring and summer and sometimes in the fall. You should have no problems booking your wedding if its any time between November and March. Oh, and i would suggest the rehearsal dinner on the 30th not the 31st. That way everyone can still go out on New Years Eve. That is what we are doing. Good luck!

My FI and I are looking at 1/1/12.  It's a Sunday, but the 2nd is a federal holiday, so most things will be closed (and our friends and family won't have to take any time off from work to travel).  I was a little worried about a NYE rehearsal- so thanks for the suggestion of doing it on the 30th!  I think that will work out great.  So far, we haven't encountered any additional fees due to the holiday, but we're still pretty early in the planning process- so we'll see.

suziwanzel  Thank you sooo much!  My wedding is 12/31/2011 and I've been really nervous about it.  Its wonderful to here someone who has gone through it.  We haven't had any problems with vendors at all.  We also haven't had any extra charges due to the holiday.  I'm expecting turn out to be a little low, but we are inviting 375 people (AHHHH!!!), so I'm ok with it being a little low. :)

We just got engaged (Oct 10) and decided we did not want to wait So far I have found the hall and our pastor can fly in.  The hall extended discounts bc really there is no one booking for New Years Day and it is a Sunday!
