I had the most wonderful dream that I got married on NYE.  I am seriously considering moving the date. Just wondering if any of you all are getting married in a church and if you ran into any problems

I had the most wonderful dream that I got married on NYE.  I am seriously considering moving the date. Just wondering if any of you all are getting married in a church and if you ran into any problems there. My church has NYE service and I don't think the church would be available for my 4 pm ceremony.
Love only what you do, not what you have done!

I had a hard time finding a catholic church. Mine flat out refused. I found one though after some searching!

This isn't church related, but if you're considering a NYE wedding, keep in mind that the expectations of your guests will be very high...

Since they'll be giving up other plans to attend your wedding, they'll expect a blow out: full open bar all night, passed hors d' oeuvres, plated dinner, live music, champagne toast at midnight, party lasting past midnight...

And vendors/venues will be very expensive that night. Just something to keep in mind. Good luck!

I am in the process of planning my NYE wedding for next year.  I love the idea and all my guests that heard of it are more than excited.  I don't feel as if many people will be giving up plans.  It always seems as if everyone is always trying to find something to do on NYE.  Somethings we are doing are..making it a 6 hour reception 7-8 cocktail 8-1 reception...2 champange toast 1 reg and 1 at midnight...in addition to cocktail hour and dinner...we are doing cheesesteaks and soft pretzels at 1245 as a to go food when everyone starts to leave...I have a million other ideas if you need them and would appreciate any input too...I think it is a great date!!!  Good Luck!!  My colors are black and silver with red roses for flowers...and also to mention we are on a smaller budget so it is possible.

I got married on NYE last year and it was amazing! We did get married in a Catholic church, but like pp said we had to do a little searching. The first 5 I contacted refused because they onld do Sat. Weddings. Not sure if non catholic churches will be more accomodating. Would you be able to do your ceremony after the NYE service? Ours was at 5:30 but I know other NYE brides did theirs even later.

As far as cost, I would have to disagree with pp. The only things that cost more were DJ and limo. Everything else was actually LESS expensive incuding our reception venue which was half their normal rate because they gave us weekday rates despite the holiday. Next year NYE is a Friday, so you may run into more typical pricing, though I know a lot of places will still discount Friday's because they're not as popular.

One thing to keep in mind is some vendors won't work NYE or only take a limited amount, so booking early is important. I talked to a few bakery's and florists that were closed the entire week between christmas and new year's, so be prepared for a little bit more searching.

GL with all your planning!

I'm getting married this NYE and haven't had any problems...my church gave me no problems, I'm having a 4pm ceremony and their NYE mass isn't until 7 and the only extra cost was to my photographer b/c she had to pay an asst. more to work.
As far as expectations of guest, we are doing the countdown, confetti cannon, all the NYE hats and tiaras and what not but nothing too extreme.  You don't need a band, a DJ is just fine and we asked around a lot before booking our date and all of our guest LOVED the idea...I can't even tell you how excited our guests are.
A word of advice would be to never think you'll get a big decline b/c of the holiday...I invited 230 and my FMIL thought a lot of her people wouldn't come b/c of the holiday and she was so wrong b/c they are ALL coming.
There are ALOT of NYE brides on the DEC0 09 board if you wanna stop it and check out our ideas

Oh and I'm keeping my toast at the beginning...I figure everyone will have a drink in hand of their choice for the midnight toast

We are also getting married NYE 2010. The church I wanted to have the wedding at was closed though (it's on a collage campus) so we decided to for go a church wedding and have the ceremony where we are having our reception. I'm sure if we had done more looking we could have found another church, but we decided we liked the idea of the ceremony and the reception at the same place.

Also, no one has charged us more yet for working on a holiday. Our photographer actually gave us a discount because it's a friday. I did come across vendors though that weren't available because they don't work nye but i just found someone else to work with. I just suggest being flexible and realizing that you may not get your first choice vendor if they don't work holdiays.

All our guests are really excited about it. But I wouldn't say that we're going above and beyond because it's nye, nor have any of our guests expected it. We're doing a regular toast and a midnight toast. But other than that we're not having any additional alcohol. We're having hor'deovres through out the night but since the ceremony isn't starting until 7pm we're not having a sit down dinner. There will still be tons of food though. And we're having a dj and of course noise makers, fi's father is doing fireworks, and we'll do a countdown and have all the traditional nye hats, etc.
